Yes this is absolutely hysterical....
We had just a few hatch on a last hatch, and were so lonely, and being yellow chicks I sent DH to the feed store to pick up a few yellow chicks to keep these babies happy....and so he did, he brought me 1 small baby cornish
barnie.gif
and they fell in love, and that was 1 week ago and today the baby blue splash marans can run under the cornish without ducking (no duck offense intended)
lol.png

and corny will be a lifelong friend to the little bsm !!!!
It is so funny, like there is an emu chick amonst the bsm's !!

i knew i was going to have chick problems after listening to you guys.

i went to pick up my chicks today and.... chaos

some of my birds came in some were never ordered.... and some didn't survive...

no light brahmas arrived
no lakenvelders
or special new production hybrids

all the silkies died (others ordered some too, the whole box died)

so the hatchery included some extra chicks.... so instead of 3 jersy black giants i got 5 and one if the roo it ordered (he has a green face)
i got 3 trans... turkens (easier to spell)
4-5 anoconas instead of 2
one is a mistery we thing it is an anocona or possibly a lakenvelder...
then i got 3 production reds
6 aracunas
and if i do my math right there should be a total of 22 chicks listed

so now my living total of chickens is 60 with 15 eggs under broody hens.

i figured i would have a pure bred black giant jersy flock
and some brahmas later (i have the buff columbian roo, light brahma hen, buff bantm brahma) i think starting a flock with these combinations would be interesting. i love their personality they are like puppies and follow me around (not the roo... it is a scaredy cat.)

so yeah.

Even worse, you never got Araucanas. . . You got crossbred mutt birds called Easter Eggers.

Darn hatcheries that lie to you. . . .

Sorry to hear of that. 'Tis a small reason among many reason I don't get from hatcheries.

this place is hard to keep up with now.
I have been away for a couple days cause I tried to break my leg and it has just kind of kept me from even thinking of trying to set at the computer. Starting to feel a little better but LOTS of nice shades of purple / Green from above the knee to the end of my toes. About now I really could go for some pants with VERY baggy legs, or less swelling.

Sorry to hear of all the problems with egg / chick deliveries.

If anyone is looking for OEGB eggs I can supply some. They will be SDW (roo) and BBR (hen) which I have been told will produce a GDW chick.

OH Dear I am so Sorry Cheri. I am a self confessing ADD airhead extraordinaire. It is like talking about ADD, and Oh look there's a bunny! I am so easily distracted. I am going to blame it on DH this week, he is a big strong man, and he can take it, after all he is the one who started the bathroom remodel. (See what I mean)

Illa: I love the sonograms my first thought was "Oh it's a baby" sighed I with baby envy. Great pictures of them too.

Chickielady: I had 1 cuckoo Marans from a Texas Hatchery order that I placed last year. (They had a really pretty catalog) To say that I was not happy with the order is a BIG understatement. I ended up with 1 Cuckoo Marans pullet, no Lakenvelder pullets, and all Black Sumatra's died in the first week. I am also reasonably certain that the Jersey Giants where not...... , but any way i kept the 1 Cuckoo Marans pullet until she started to lay. She was a big bird and laid a brown egg that looked remarkably like a production brown egg. I felt that since I didn't get the eggshell color that I was really after and wanting that why keep her. I found too that I needed to reduce the numbers of birds, and I can only keep what I "really really" love so off to the auction she went. I felt kind of mean after all I had named her Celeste, but I also know that the girls I kept are a lot less stressed with the flock being kept to a more manageable size.

I got my Lakenvelder and Blue Marans hen the day that I rode shot gun with TomatoLady to Battleground. We went to pick-up a Black Marans trio for Viki, and I realized that the lady that we were getting those birds from was going to send my girls off to freezer camp. I just fell in love with them and couldn't let them go to camp so the 2 girls came home with us. I am so happy that they did too, they are 2 of the best layers I have right now.

LaSombra: "I named my salmon faverolles after types of salmon that live in the area".
What a great idea for names. As I said I am still looking for a few more names for the girls.

I am going to get rid of the 3 Welsummer hens. I am sure that one of them is laying fairly regularly, but it’s possible that they all laying inconsistently. I need to reduce my flock just a little more, and I would rather have one more Blue Marans hen than the 3 Welsummer. They are the Welsummer Chicks that I got from Royce aka Tailfeathers last September. I am thinking that I am going to ask 10.00 for each of them or I may just take them to the auction.

Oh Dear I just found this post and I didn’t get it posted at 12:30pm like I should have. I think I was editing it when real life intruded. Or I am just really an aired head.
I got the dog poop picked up and the lawn mowed. I also did a quick clean on the big girls coop. I have been tweaking the meat bird’s brooder for what it seems like days. The original brooder was just too small. I managed to put the transition pen in front of the brooder and I cut out a chunk of wire out of both pens so that the bird can use both spaces. I have to say meat birds are really stupid and nasty looking. I also clean out the Java finch cage and I think I got most of the floor swept and vacuumed. To say the least I am really tired now and desperately need a shower. Goodnight everyone.

I was teasing about pawning (him) off on you.... you are 10 min away.... lol

Our friends who said it was a Roo in the first place already volunteered to take it if we don't want a noisy bird. I rather like the chance to see what he will be like after being such a nice, calm Cockeral.

Hi there.
I'm about to get my first chicks in a few hours. I'm heading up I5 from Seattle to Sedro Woolley to see my dad and thought I'd stop off at Monroe Feed & Farm to get some chicks.
However, it is a bit out of the way. Is there any good places to get chicks between Seattle and Sedro Woolley. I'm sure there are, but I can't seem to find them on the web.
How is Del's Farm and Feed?
I'd like to have a variety to look at.
Some hopefuls are-
Golden Laced Wyandotte
Buff Orphington
Easter Egger
Sussex

I have read someplace that it is not safe to biring adult birds into an existing flock. Is this true? I'm new to this chicken thing. I only have one coop and can't really make another one, I think my husband would just have a fit if I asked. Might be funny to see that so maybe I'll ask just to see it :)

Dells at Monroe is a good place if you just want egg-layers. I got all my stuff and 6 chicks for like 72 bucks out the door. I used a large Rubbermade tote the first few weeks. Look around and there are many poor schmucks like me who have old (yet new) gear that is sitting unused!
