oh yeah, I'm soooo done with this freaking rain!! My runs are mud pits. I'm glad I have crocs and boots to wear out there so I can easily wash them. "squish squish squish" the sound of me coming into the coop. grrr LOL

Maybe you can set some traps om the perimeter fence ?
Jeeeze, how long will it go on being surrounded by coyotes ?
And how are YOU ???

I never even thought about setting traps...

I'll look into that, but knowing my luck I'd end up trapping my own mutts!

How long are the Coyotes here each night?.... I guess that all depends on witch pack is running. We have three packs that run through our property. The largest pack we have counted up to 34 at one time, in my mothers field next door to me. When the large pack runs through, they will stay about 100 yards in all directions for about 30 - 45 minutes. "We live right on a main salmon run, lots of brush and trees." The smaller packs dont stick around very long, they just pass through, and are here and gone within 5 - 10 minutes. I really dont mind the coyotes so much. I think they are cool to listen to when they hunt. But I gotta protect my girls.

I'm alive and managing. Not very well mind you, but I'm dealing with it. I tend to sleep A LOT, and I can't control it either. Thats what bothers me the most is the fact that one minute I'll be ok, then the next, I'm all but colapsing. Dr. says to just rest, stay off my feet, and watch for any confusion, loss of vission, nassea, ect... But one way or another, I HAVE to go to work in the morning. Even if I make my husband drive my gimpy butt around to the barns. The horses aren't gonna care for them selves on the count that I'm a clutz and had an accident. lol

I hope you are OK, and if we were closer I would come help out, we logged yesterday and still have alot of trees/slash to deal with but look at this storm coming in !
Will spring ever get here ?
And are we the only ones in Washington that are infested with no-see-ums....they are eating me alive !
I have seen a few flying around downtown and in Elma, how are the rest of you doing with the no see ums ?

Cheryl are you serious with packs of 34 coyotes ?
Someone must be feeding them to have their numbers skyrocket like that !
We have none here, knock on wood.
Have you done "no dig " fences ?
You know how to cut the fence 5 foot 2x4 fence wire in half longways, so you then have 2 rolls of 2 1/2 ft high wire ?
Then lay in down on the outside of your fence, and bend the cut pieces over so animals cannot dig out.
You have to have a 2 x 4 fence wire or tight field fencing for it to work, can't do this with a string or barb wire.
I will send a photo if you want.
We have done it on the outside of all our bird pens, and on the inside of the dog pens so when we lock them in there, they cannot dig out.
Our pens are about 50 x 100 feet, so far 3 of them, and we add on another pen every so often...it is easy to do, and may help you !
You can litereally sit on your butt and scoot along bending the cut wire over so it is attached to the bottom strand on your fence.
Would not be practical to do an entire huge pasture...hope you are OK.
There is no way you can trap that many coyotes, but maybe call the Washington State Dept Fish and Wildlife and see if they can send out a state approved trapper ?
We got bears out here, not many, but there has been some that LOVE garbage and feed, and will not go away.
They had to be trapped by the state~

Someone invent raincoats for chickens and you would be a rich rich person !
Maybe this weather is wearing down the birds' health and allowing the germs in the soil to breed out of control so we may see alot of disease we would not normally see, I am ordering Marek's vaccine, and have already done wazine...this storm is due to beat them all !

I am so sorry to hear you are still having problems, I sincerely hope your other birds do not get it !

sorta helped i guess...Thank you for posting it! i am worried about the hatching chick and the chick that has already hatched. I JUST treated everyone with Ivermectin too.. and have a dust bath available for everyone that has powder in it.. AND I am really careful about keeping houses cleaned and treated. Bugs -- the creepy crawlie blood sucking kind -- are just gross, and I hate for my flock to have them...

I will check the nest in the AM and make sure all crawling has stopped. blech. Part of a free range flock-- wild birds come into the yard too I guess right?

that is where we get the crawlies is from visiting flocks of wildbirds....I have Robins nesting and in my yard digging worms.
They are so tame, but I watched one preening the other day and just wondered if he was digging mites off himself !

I am starting a new applicae' quilt, each square will be a correctly colored and feathered chicken, and doing it all by hand as my machine is packed away.
Applicae' is prettier by hand anyway, and so am trying to get my butt off this chair and have something positive to show for my day sitting here week after week in this $#@!*&$#@#@ RAIN!!!!!!!!!!
I may even go get a gym membership if it is not too expensive !
I am not gaining weight, but I sure am getting flabby sitting here.
Running the chainsaw yesterday (and need to do way more to clean up all this slash) is kicking my flabby butt !
Maybe I will get out my paints, too.
TIRED OF RAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My hens are drenched to the skin, and will not go in from the rain, I should not have let them out this morning, they will all end up getting sick.
Darn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My guinea eggs are hatching, they are so cute !!!!!
Turkeys tomorrow.

I will when I get home, I didn't pull them out till this morning. I did have to do a hatch assist on the last chicklet. I *do* have a picture of it on facebook immediately after I extracted her from the shell. I've never stepped in before, but I figured that worse case scenario she would die either way, so may as well give the baby a chance. I had to leave for work right after, so she's in the incubator drying out with a couple of chickies I left in there for company.

I have heard that the West side could get 3-5 inches of Rain today...is this what you are hearing too? We on East side of the Mtns are getting 1/2-1 inch. My peeps are hanging out under my huge willow tree picking at bugs and watching the squirrels in the tree. I told hubby we needed to get them all little rubber boots. I too am tired of all this rain. Good luck on the hatching....sounds like fun.
