Few more than BYC, but yes, it is open invite. We have a pig roast planned for Saturday the 12th at our house in Lake Stevens (formerly Everett address

I swear of they make me start paying sewer I'm gonna march down to the city offices and rip some new ones, but I digress)

The quick and dirty rundown, I'll get to some PMs here in a bit when I get back.

Saturday the 12th. we're going to plan on pulling the pig off the pit at about 5pm, people are welcome to come over prior, stay as long as they like, we have room for tents. Kids are welcome, however there probably will be intoxicated adults around, so keep that in mind. My kids aren't going to be here because they're at Grandmas! (FOR 5 WEEKS!!!)

All we ask is you bring a dish to pass, your own alcohol, and a lawn chair.

We'll have pop, water, juice, ice, the BACON (

) and we'll probably throw some links on the grill and DH said something about "chickens"

NWChicks
There is a place that does and of course you can send them to WSU lab. I think there it one in Pierce county but I'll have to look. any vet would know. Feed stores dont know much about anything LOL

ya, I called around to vets the other day for another friend and was told it $90 for the gross necropsy and usually $120 for any blood work. I called wsu and that $20 is only for sending your bird in and the gross necropsy, no blood work, that is extra.....they should make it a bit easier...and with WSU you pay before they do it... I am always wary of that!

That is GREAT to know.... I would rather pay less than more any day!!! I just have a serious mistrust for paying for a "service" before completed.... you should hear my $600 dryer repair horror. But knowing that they can be trusted makes a lot of difference.

Well it has finally happened....they (1 roo, and 13 girls) found my veggie garden. They are out there right now pulling off little bites of kalarhabi leaves and dill plants. So far they are leaving alone the peas, lettuce, brocccoli and onions. I will have to chase them out if they get too "rambunctious". Rotten little critters.

LOL....the white egg shell competition is hilarious. I can just see the egg shells flying now. White...no green...no white....no brown....no (what other colored eggs are there?). LMBO

I have 12 BR, what colored eggs will they be laying when they get to that age? that way I know which team to root for. Also, what age do chickiepoos start laying?

On that note....when do I take babies off of the baby start & grow and change to grownup food? I have a roo and hen born in February and my chicks I got from the feedstore in March.

My one BR had a very light brown to cream egg. But I have heard others say theirs were more medium brown.

On the chicken food. There are varying opinions.... Here is mine. I kept mine on 24% chick starter until about age 12 weeks.... Then I mixed it about half and half with the 20% because I could get it a little bit cheaper. My chickens started laying in record time, and I credit the higher protein, but who really knows.

Some will tell you to take them off of the chick feed and put them on all purpose. But that is a significant drop in protein. Also, if you are also giving them scratch, why not keep it (the protein) up a bit to be safe.

Once one of my girls started laying, I put them on layer (which most of them hated). I still put some 24% in the mix in the winter because I was also feeding them scratch and oatmeal to help them handle the cold weather.

That said, you probably don't have to worry much... They will eat what they will. They will lay when they do. And it is all good.

Nyrial. I am trying to coordinate some things to make sure I can get there, and also get to a med test I need done. So far things are not coming together very well, but I am still working on it. I am also hoping to get Donna there, but that may not be in the cards with her busy schedule lately. Seems like she is in her element in many ways. I hope she is happy and stays healthy.
Thanks for the offer of the bed. I may take you up on that. I would love to see Pinky and the trio and their trio...

If you like oysters... Think... A soft squishy roll with a little tarter and a mound of lettuce topped with 3-4 smallish oysters that have been lightly breaded and fried (not over fried) in butter. Then topped with the other half of the roll. Yummy!

Cooked? you cook oysters? lol I LOVE them raw....mmm with just a lil Tabasco or horseradish! YUMMY

Me too, and drink up all the liquor...oyster liquor !!!

Thanks Russ.... But, what energy. I am not feelin' that today. Found out this morning that the noise that was keeping me up last night was a drunk woman sleeping in my yard the the cops rousting her this very early AM (when only white egg eaters are awake

).... Oh the joys of living in the huge city of Hoquiam.

My new roommate found her wallet and some cash this AM in the yard and we called the cops to pick it up from us. He heard the story at that time. I told him we should have kept some of the money for renting her a camping space.....

Thanks Chickielady. I really do appreciate local support. I am looking at the real estate guide that comes out in the Daily World.... But so far nothing that I could ever afford, or it is pretty much underwater most days of the year.

We need to meet at some point. I would love to know someone who lived closer than 50 miles from me who is a chicken person... A real chicken person!

Some of the people locally who offered to take the chickens didn't even know what kind of chickens they had. Or thought they did and were very wrong. One guy had cuckoo marans and thought they were BR. Seems like the white legs and skin should have clued him in. Another had sex link male chicks about 6 weeks of age and was convinced that they were all gonna be br hens. When I told them what they had, they didn't believe me. Ah well, the crowing just might convince them in a couple of weeks. LOL

Anyway, maybe we can meet one day at the Dairy Queen in Raymond for oyster burgers.

Sounds great !
And if you can move out this way I will look for property for you.
It is out here, just have to keep looking !
Good to have you back !!
