I appreciate the information. I of course learned that, just about the time that the Electorlux gave up the ghost.

I just realized that I had said earlier it was a Eureka I killed that way.

My bad it was an Electrolux that I killed.

I also have killed a Miele, it never was up to the job.

I try, and make new mistakes each time and every time I make a mistake. I haven't run out of new things to do yet.

My first Dyson Vacuum was bought nearly 10 years ago when they first came out, and other than the outer plastic(I have had small chunks break out of the housing very nicely), all it really needed was a really good deep clean. I was able to pick the new Dyson with some airline points, so I went ahead and replaced it.

I am using the older Dyson in the garage these days. I have gotten to a point though where, that with just a good broom and pan, followed by a heavy duty mop is all that's really needed in the house.

With the new patio slab I am still hoping that a lot of the dirt will be further reduced with time. It has certainly made cleaning up after the girls easier. The nasty little dogs will help clean for me if I let them, and given that I sleep with the nasty dirty little hounds, I try not to let them eat too much.

So it has now become part of the free range time to follow up with the hose. I am fairly easy to make happy.

It would help a lot to get the puppies off to their owns homes too.

I wasn't familiar the brand Fein on shop vacuums. The next time I need to replace the shop vac, I will look into it more. Thank you for the information

Not that anybody cares. I thought I would throw my 2 cents in on Vaccuums. I have the dyson "animal" (the purple one) I have had it for over five years. I love it. It picks up ALL the hair from my long hair GSD.

The only thing I can say against it is that the long hair from my dog gets wrapped around the beater bar and I have to pull it off every couple times I use it.

I have 2 araucana and 1 red ameraucana chick to give away to good homes. They just hatched yesterday- wrong colors for me. I also have 3 very unusual roos to good homes- 1 off-white Polish frizzle, 2 true araucanas- all bantams.

Besides, my chickens pay for themselves.
Although the disaster hatching egg incident took a serious bite out of my income to cost ratio...kind of like tossing $80 in the can.
So if you think about the addiction in other ways, it really can be seen as a business.
And no one can argue with that, in addition to feeding your family (and the entire city

) and the extreme entertainment value, chickens are wonderful pets, more than earning their keep, much more so than say, a parakeet (who could eat those eggs ???) and cats...dogs...you get the idea.
Some animals feed us, some do not.
They are also wonderful to get us out of bed and going in the morning.
And I have a waiting list for the compost.
Chicken manure composted with veg scraps, kitchen waste, and wood chips makes awesome compost...tossed in with rabbit smart pills we have a compost that everyone wants, save it up for spring if you've the room, and post a sign for gardener's hunting for compost in the spring.
I, and some firnds, also tie flys, so the feathers are collected and made into fishing flies.
The Guineas will greatly contribute to this hobby also.
So make a list of the benfits of having these birds, or for having so many birds.
Then you will feel better.

**************and I have remodeled, sheetrock and all, 2 homes, with a Bissell Power Force upright vacuum from Walmart for $40...it sucks up sheetrock dust and concrete chunks when we had to jack hammer, rebel rabbit smart pills, dog hair and all for 5 -6 years and when it started to make bearing noise I put it out in the garage and DH uses it still, going strong albeit loud, another 3 years now.
I bought another one for inside, and it is 3 years old.
It gets htread wrapped around the beeater bar when I quilt...but that cannot be helped.
I love the hose that allows you to clean the car, cobwebs, get under stuff.
And it cost $40.
It sucks great !

I do love the wet/dry vacs...we have a big commercial one designed for asbestos (has a bunch of filters) but it is big and bulky and a pain to dump.
The vacuum bags for the Bissell "Power Force" from Walmart are CHEEP, and dust free to pop them off and toss.
I am so done with vacuums that cost as much as a car.
They are as bad as the $5K washer and dryer sets you see now (each as big as a refrigerator with the candy apple-red metal flake paint jobs...so extravagant and huge they need there own entire room, no just a laundry space.)
I like the old washer, and my clothesline most of the time, and a regular dryer.
Getting to be an endangered item in our lives.

I'm home!!!!!!! It is freezing up here!!! I thought it has been sunny!

Anyways-

My quackers were so excited to see me! I went to the run and they had so much to tell me! The peas were very ready to be picked out of the garden so my 5 little helpers were more than happy to take care of it!

As it turns out they were not allowed out of their run while I was gone.

So mommy is so making up for it! I got the pool out and have covered the lawn with lettuce, mustard greens and peas! Oh we are so happy!

How they have grown! And oh the mess I have to clean today! Guess I am more of clean freak than the person who watched them for me! But they have clean water and plenty of food and are fine.

LOoraine- Shaniqua has a curled drake feather! Midnight has not developed one yet but has the same kind of quack. Is there always such a big difference in development?

Ok gotta go put on my snowsuit and boots and start working in the yard! BBBBrrrrrrrrrrr!

The sun is finally out, and once again I find myself sitting on a chair in the backyard just watching my chickies. I know that to some that would seem weird, but for me it is soooo therapeutic. They are so quiet and I love the quiet little sounds they make as they scratch and search and preen and cluck and then preen some more. I have had my girls for 3 months now and I never thought I would get so hooked. I find myself looking at real estate out in Sammamish where apparently you can have 20 chickens! I currently have five and I dream about using a broody to try and hatch some eggs, but I know I can't because we don't have the space nor the city ordinances that would allow. I keep hoping that my neighboring lot might go up for sale because that would allow me to have more...anything to be able to have just a few more! Scary! Most of all, I love perusing this website because I KNOW that you all will totally understand my new found addiction and I love that!

I spent the first part of the day out with the chickens. The little banties had escaped, and were on the lam. So when I got up, and all the hounds from helloville went out and we found the escapees, about the same time. I found myself calling the little birds the children of the corn, so any way I quickly broke out the crack, and they all fell for my ploy. Once again they are prisoners of the chicken gulag archipelago.
