Old woman that I adore in Idaho, (Newport WA) cans the feet seperately in a jar in the stock.
She cooks a few roos, jammies off, bones the stock, return the meat to the pot, add home made big fat noodles, cook to almost al dente, and pour into jars: Presto!
Jars of stock, jars of chicken noodle soup and a few jars of clear stock with dancing chicken feet adorn her pantry shelves.
She swears that the feet (skinned of couse) were the tastiest part of the bird...I however LOVE the home made noodles...now I cannot eat them as I am allergic to wheat but have to make my own or use Quinoa pasta...when you have 5-6 chicken feet in a jar in stock, make pasta, pour the stocky-feet over the top and you have dinner.
Home made healthy fast food.
I do not like the fat from the skin in my stock.
The meat has enough flavor to knock you over !

We're going to do meat birds next spring but we have a friend who has one of those whiz bang style chicken pluckers that he'll let us borrow. Otherwise, DH had mandated stripping them. I'm so glad we won't lose the skin since it makes much better stock. If you've never seen one of those just google "chicken plucker" and there are a bunch of you tube videos.

Have you considered getting an old washing machine and have DH screw the rubber plucking fingers all on the inside then you just hold the scalded bird in the tub while it spins and plucks really really fast.
Then a propane torch fries off the fuzz.

I don't think I am against it entirely. But DH is. He keeps making noises that we won't raise meaties again. His Grand-dad taught him about skinning, and since we eat most of the meat skinned, it works for the most part.

I would love to have a partner to show me how to dip and pluck the first time.

Big Big pot outside (I use the burner on the gas grill, make sure your grill will not tip from the weight of the pot)
Pot 3/4 full, heat to 160...hold dead bird by feet, lower into pot, hold in 4-5 minutes, check to see if feathers come free easily, pull birdie out, sit in a comfy lawn chair with a trash can betwix your knees, and pluck.
Too hot, and you cook the skin, a no no, too cold, and the feathers stay attached.
A turkey fry pot with it's gas burner works fantastic.
I line the garbage can with a plastic bag and wrap up the feathers after or they end up all over the yard.
Oh yeah, do not plan on going to the rest room nor scratching as you will indeed have feathery fingers !!!

Jess, try the hatcheries like Stromberg's and I think Murray McMurray they have carried the fingers before...also try good feed stores.
They are supposed to screw right into the washer tub (through the holes that are already there)
I think there are web sites how to make the pluckers..google it..how to or ask.com ?
