I cannot believe how many turned out to be hens, and they are fat and beautiful, and developing muffs, tufts, and beards now.
It seems the 9 Blue Ameraucanas are all hens, I cannot find one that is a roo.
All have fledged, none have the tell tale hackle and comb of roos.
I gotta have a Blue Ameraucana roo ! At least 1 !
I will have to get another OE from Zgoatlady, too so there is better fertility.
Can you imagine how hard that 1 roo will be ?
He is already twice the size of the others, the hens, and has loads of copper hackle coming through.
They are half FBCM's and half Blue Am's...all are black with feathered shanks and are a shiney beetle green...reminds me of Javas...really big deer-like eyes...they are beautiful !
Can't waite to get some giant olive green eggs !
My BBS marans should start laying anyday...
The fires are scarey:
I was thinking what would I do ?
Have to get every rabbits cage and dog crate I have and grab as many chickens as possible, and rabbits, and new baby rabbits, and the dog, and load all up in the minivan while DH hooks up the boat(s) and hauls them somewhere safe and come back if possible and help me get stuff out....then I thought:
Where would we go with 45 chickens ?
By now the chickens would be fighting and cramped...hungry and thirsty: I would have to go to Mom and Dad's in town in Elma and drop off the critters !
That would not go over well at all !
Probably have to go to a BYC'er to temporarily store the critters ?
I don't know.
It is a good thing to think about what you would do if...
Rare Feathers !
What were you going to do with all your critters and birds...when the fire was coming for your place ?
I could not just leave them !
