i WANT TO KNOW WHY ONE WOULD HAVE MITES AND OT THE OTHER,,,AND even worse, why would one have parasite eggs around the vent ????
And I cannot think of but one worm that lays eggs outside the body is a pinworm...did not know chickens got pinworms.
I alos want to know what would make a hen have constant black poo...runny enough to drip down her feathers...not enough to alarm, just always black dark green poo and the others do not: think it is blood ?

Something else that is weird...14 eggs from Zgoatlady:OE's...and 13 hatched, 1 clear...and as of right now and all concerned have voted::: there is 1 roo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is 12 hens !
WOW what an astronomical hatch !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lol.png
But a wee bit too many hens per roo

woah! talk about good luck!!! I have 6 barnies and am pretty sure 5 are girls. I thought that was good luck, but yours is even better!

I cannot believe how many turned out to be hens, and they are fat and beautiful, and developing muffs, tufts, and beards now.
It seems the 9 Blue Ameraucanas are all hens, I cannot find one that is a roo.
All have fledged, none have the tell tale hackle and comb of roos.

I gotta have a Blue Ameraucana roo ! At least 1 !
I will have to get another OE from Zgoatlady, too so there is better fertility.
Can you imagine how hard that 1 roo will be ?
roll.png

He is already twice the size of the others, the hens, and has loads of copper hackle coming through.
They are half FBCM's and half Blue Am's...all are black with feathered shanks and are a shiney beetle green...reminds me of Javas...really big deer-like eyes...they are beautiful !
Can't waite to get some giant olive green eggs !
My BBS marans should start laying anyday...

The fires are scarey:
I was thinking what would I do ?
Have to get every rabbits cage and dog crate I have and grab as many chickens as possible, and rabbits, and new baby rabbits, and the dog, and load all up in the minivan while DH hooks up the boat(s) and hauls them somewhere safe and come back if possible and help me get stuff out....then I thought:
Where would we go with 45 chickens ?
By now the chickens would be fighting and cramped...hungry and thirsty: I would have to go to Mom and Dad's in town in Elma and drop off the critters !
lol.png

That would not go over well at all !
Probably have to go to a BYC'er to temporarily store the critters ?
I don't know.
It is a good thing to think about what you would do if...
Rare Feathers !
What were you going to do with all your critters and birds...when the fire was coming for your place ?
I could not just leave them !

wow ! That is excellent luck and a decent hen to roo ratio.
My 1 roo could never fertilize all these hens...so the fertility rate will be medium to poor...not good for selling hatching eggs or hatching eggs to get chicks and will have too many blanks (clears)
Good for just eating eggs, though.
He is a big strutting roo~ I will get a photo!

Here is the one roo, and he is really something to see !

and some of the rest of the hatch of OE's and Blue Am's, all getting awesome beards !

They are broody raised by my "Big girl' light brahma...so a bit skittish, and wary, but all seem to be perfectly healthy, an astouding hatch, and remember Big Girl incubated AND brooded all 13 OE's, and I incubated the 9 Blue Am's and added them under her in the night (sneaky!) and she raised them all.
Big Girl (Bernice) is recovering, molting and back with the rest of the lay flock.
Awesome brooder/hatching machine those big brahmas hens !
Here is Big Girl (Bernice) with the babies when they were baby babies.

Have a great day everyone !

It is now officially too hot to work outside... And I still have a ton of work to do. Chickens are happy with their frozen watermellon, and they all keep wandering out into the horse pasture to stand in the sprinkler! Hope every one is staying cool!

Yup, we're in Pinehurst (North of Northgate).

:)

Where are you at?

Both of my little sisters went to Pinehurst Elementary school as kids. I graduated from Nathan Hale HS. We had to walk from NE 12th down to the high school and back for years. We lived just off of Northgate way. I like the neighborhoods up that way.

How hot is it?

Last weeks we had 5 days straight of above 100 degrees.

We have been breaking records for about 3 days now. One temp says 91 degrees and the other says 99.5. I am going with the 91. The difference is that up till now we have been doing good to get to the 70's. Now it has bounced up 20 degrees and we are not accustom to here on the west side of the Cascades. The high temps during summer are normal for the east side of the state.
