Goodmorning Washingtonians!

All seems much better yet,so much so that I knew before we got out of bed that the chickens felt WAY better!
How did I know ?
The crowing at dawn, the anxious footsteps in the henhouse, the pleading gripeing hens...they wanted OUT!
They wanted to go rotovate and eat !

They had another shot, and went right to the feed buckets, gobbling layena and scratch down, scraps and treats like it was the meal they would ever get...fantastic appetite is back !
All birds look happier.
I do have a question...my Brahmas and Cuckoo Marans are 2 years old, and in HEAVY molt...and away from the MG coop, but feathers are blowing and some of the birds are eating feathers.
Does anyone know if this is a sign of malnutrition or are they just dumb birds eating a wayward feather ?
I thought it meant something like a protein need or ?

Oh, and do not have a clue if the lab works today, probably does, someone has to read cultures.
So I do not know if we will hear from them on the necropsy.

As for the lab work... If the Vet does things like most physicians "sp?" do, then no news is usually good news. Right? At least that is what I have always been told, by both MY Dr. and my Vet. So, I'm leaning torwards nothing new/more to report.

Take a deep breath, your being an awsome chickie mamma, and have done WAY more than a lot of people would have to help your flocks. I wish I could stretch my arms through the computer and give you and your other half a big ol' hug!

You two are wonderfull people, and are a great asset to this group of people here in the washington thread!

Hi Fellow Washingtonians!!!

Been following this thread, but not saying much......just driving everyone nuts with newbie questions on the duck/raising baby chicks threads. I am so glad your chickens are doing better! You guys are amazing. I can't believe how much I am learning on here. Enough to make me feel woefully inadequate......

I have a question about putting my little beasts in the coop when the time comes. I live about 15 mins west of Snoqualmie Pass, off I-90, and while we don't get clobbered in the winter like they do, we can get pretty cold and snowy. Now I hear they are calling for an El Nina winter. Last winter was mild with very little snow, but for the two years before that it was cold and we had tons of snow. My chicks and ducklings should be ready to go outside by mid-October, but I'm really concerned about this winter. Anything special I should do to the coop, duck house and runs? My husband has already laid down the law.....they are NOT staying in the house....lol.

I have Mallards, Rouen, RIR, Gold laced Wyandotte and Delaware.

Yes, Anti freeze and insulation!
I add lots of shavings and straw to coops,pens,dog houses and everywhere. I try to keep the snow and rain out of all coops with plywood. Good luck and nice to have you!NOT!

I just got an e-mail of the preliminary, and the doc there say MG, swelling in left sinus, otherwise the bird in great condition, health and weight.
He saw no signs of anything else and asked if I wanted histology...checking for lesions associated with MG, and That would just double confirm both vets diagnosis...the first vet started the necropsy, another finished.
Bacteriology is difficult as this bird was treated 1 week with Duramycin (tetracycline) and 1 week with Sulphamet (Sulpha) and the fatc that the birds got better with Duramycin, and worsened with tetracycline confirmed his diagnosis of MG.
I awaite his e-mail about the ILT concerns and contagion...so I will write again about this later.
We did the Longbeach rod run to the end of the world.
DH wants a rat rod badly if anyone knows of a rusty old piece of crud on someone's property, even if it is an old truck.
His favorite is T buckets...

Been occasionally but not often checking this place. There are just a lot of conversations I have little to say in.

Also I'm waiting for my new batteries. . . I really need to get pics of everyone, especially now in this rain.

- My Tolbunt Polish and Silver Laced are so crazy looking in their new area.

Oh, and I'm excited for the upcoming weekend. I'm going off to get myself a lovely Mottled Houdan cockerel!

Next week my Tolbunt pen really will look crazy. Silver Laced Polish, Tolbunt Polish, Mottled Houdan, and now I just need a BUNCH of tolbunt babies running around in there to make a big "calico" pile.

Oh holy migraine!

Coffee, excedrine, water... Nothing is helping today. Oh well guess I suffer and keep plugging on.

On the up side, Chloe and I are baking her first batch of Oatmeal raisin/craisin cookies. lol My kitchen is a total mess, frour and oats everywhere! But Chloe "being 2 mind you," is doing VERY well helping me make messes, now if only I could get her to help clean up. lol
