In all actuality it all depends on where in Poulsbo you live. They are MUCH more strict "in" town, apposed to where I live, in the unincorporated area. The biggest issue that we had when putting in any animal structure has been, making sure the structure is a minimum of 50' away from any wells. If you contact City hall, the clerk there will be able to answer your questions in a more understandable way. The written law can be a tad bit confusing to some. Myself included at times.

As for where to buy chicks... Cenex on Viking Way sells chicks, they had some a week ago, but am not sure if they still do. You can also check in Silverdale at Farmland feed, they keep there chicks in the back store house. You could try calling Bay Hay and Feed on Bainbridge, or you could just ask around here on BYC. There are a few of us in this general area. I know there are some people who are out on the Olympic Penninsula, there are lots of people, it just depends on how far you are willing to travle.

Bu the way! Welcome to my neck of the woods! Nice to have another BYC'er close.

Thank you for all the info, it's very helpful! I'll probably contact City hall just to make sure of everything! It's great to meet others in the area!

I'll also check out the local places for chicks and such, and those on this list as well when it's time to get a few. Thanks again for all the info.

Well today was a good day / bad day. Went to Oly and got a free HUGE net for cover over out side runs. This thing is so heavy it took 3 of us about 15 mnutes to get it in my pick up. It also has what must be several hundred feet of 3/4" nylon rope on it.

And now for the not so good part. When we got home I started dinner and Diane went out to take care of "her" (as she says) chickens. Well when she came in she had Woody my little SDW OEGB roo in her hands. He had passed. Woody had been sickly for a while but started looking better then went down fast.

I am now looking for another OEGB roo if anybody has one. I know I won't get one like woody but still want to have one.

Here is a pic of the little dab of honey I got from my bees this first year. It's only about 20lbs or 1.6gal. But it's all mine and

Hi vwmomof3
I just hatched 12 Black Star chicks, if the coloring is correct I got only 2 roosters and 10 hens! Mom, who loves hatching the babies, says to sell 5 of the new babies they are 3 days old now and very quiet and friendly peeps. I also have Coturnix Quails and I know that many here sell eggs or babies.

I hope you find some chickens soon! they are so much fun.

Growing up we had bees. We even had a spinner thing to extract the honey. Yum...that looks so good and brings back so many sticky memories. We would chew on some of the comb. Those were good times.

My first broody was about 6 months old so, yeah, it happens

She's been broody a couple other times since also, within less than a year. Just a very broody girl. She's a blue orpington...

Rustler, I don't have an oegb roo, but I do have a silkie roo if you're interested... or anyone else, for that matter. He's really cute, but I have too many roos right now and I was really hoping he'd be a broody little silkie hen... *sigh* He's a lavender split.

Sorry to hear about Woody . He wasn't that old was he???? So what ya going to do with all that honey ?????? You need to make a little roadside stand for Diane and let her sell eggs and honey.
