Yep, I once grew a couple Sweet Potatoes from the normal ones you buy at the store. They began sprouting so I thought, hey, why not try em? With NO greenhouse or even coldframe to protect them, I actually got some pretty vines and even a few baby sweet potatoes out of them! I saved the babies and hopefully they will grow some new plants this year.

A paneled greenhouse would be nice. What I really want but they are expensive and I think they are what you put on the roof of one of your chicken houses Chicky. Those plastic panels with the air layer in between. Looked at them for putting on the ends of my greenhouse but too much money. With the greenhouse plastic you can also put on a double layer and get a fan to blow air between the layers.

One thing I really like is these heat mats I got from Olsen products. Each mat holds 8 1x2' cell flats. You can set up 2 mats on a 4x8 sheet of plywood. The plywood is set up on cinder blocks. The thermostat is sold separately but there are enough outlets for 4 mats. The cost is just over $100 for the mats (I think the thermostat is close to $100)but when you compare them to the price of the mats out there that only hold one flat ($30-40) it would cost twice the money to have enough for 8 flats. Besides each single mat has it's own plug so if you had 8 of them you'd need 8 outlets. My 2 mats with 2 plugs hold 16 flats and the thermostat can still take 2 more matts. LOL, just a thought if you wanted to go semi commercial! You could grow enough for extras to sell veggie or flower plants.

We are having wind too and it's a slushy mess! Last night was the first snow for our Corgi puppy. So much fun watching her enjoy it. I couldn't get her to come in the house. She stays out a lot. She loves it outside. Theres not enough going on in the house. She constantly needs excitment. She will play outside by herself for hours. Not like the Labs where all they want is to be wherever you are.

My Dad has one of those green houses with the corrugated carbon -fiber panels...I have a link to their site:
It is called a "Solexx" and see it at: www.greenhousecatalog.com
http://www.solexx.com/
He
got his about 5 years ago, and it is still in perfect condition, and about 8 X 10 in size.
It has auto-opening vents too!
I want a bit bigger, and so the wavy fiberglass is the only way I can afford now, but at least I won't be doing the plastic anymore, have been doing the heavy weight plastic every spring for what ? 2 years now ???
That could have easily paid for the carbon fiber !!

You know Grace: I figured the first year (2011) I will have wavy fiber glass...and then year by year, I can remove the wavy cheap stuff, and do a section with the carbon fiber.
Little at a time.
Ought to be all done by the time I am 60 ???

I think that's what happened. I didn't sign up for an account. I have the email they sent me with the link to the listing which is here: https://post.craigslist.org/manage/2151036490/qjm6x

But it won't show up in the general search for me. The ad was supposed to be good for 7 days. I posted it Saturday night at 7:20, so it should be there! So frustrating.
Thanks for checking for me.

Sing up for a account it makes things much easier...
You can tell if you were flagged off or expired or etc..
You can relist expired listings as well.
I never get spam from them either so I'd say sign up!

I want to build one from wood like the dutch style roof, the rounded ones about 6 1/2 feet tall. I thought about using tthe pool as the base for it so Id only have to make a dome top.

This is like what I want to make.

But this is probably what I can afford to make...

Our snow started at around 7:30 pm.... we got a good 6+ inches then it turned to rain and became a big slushy mess with no where to go.
Now its just sloppy and trace amounts of snow in some areas.

I hate changing plastic. I went and bought the greenhouse plastic that lasts 4 years so I only have to change it that often and I think it has more light transmission. I costs more but sure saves on labor. When we bought the conley cold frame we purchased what they call channel lock. It's hard to explain but I'll try. There a section that attaches on each end of the greenhouse that is already shaped like the arches and straight pieces that get attached along the bottom on either side. All these pieces are "channels". Then you put your plastic over and attach the one side with the pieces that fit into the channels and that locks the plastic in place, pull the plastic tight on the other side and lock it in. Then do the ends with locks that you curve into the arches. It bends easily because it's aluminum but you can also use this stuff called wiggle wire. All this is to make it simple to attach and reattach the plastic. This summer will be the second summer so I won't be changing it for a while. You can see a lot of this stuff in the Growers Supply catalog I think a division of Farmtek. Growers Supply is also their website.

8x10 would be a good size to just have for seed starting and it would save the rest of the bigger greenhouse for in ground crops. Hmm, someday. Good idea to do a little at a time. Thats how I get my coops built. Once a month I'd buy a little more wood. It works that way since I don't have much time to work on them anyway. By the time I've used the wood I bought it's another month and I can buy more.

I always wonder how long I can do this kind of work. How worn out will my body be when I am 60? Hope you get it done before you're 60. Like my DH says, maybe you'll win the lottery.

It is perfect for wetting pedestrians as they walk down the sidewalk. Got it this morning walking to school. Peopl enot paying attention or even caring I think is what it is basically. Plowing down teh street shooting rooster tails 20 feet to each side lol.
