Not all school districts offer driver's ed. But to get your permit at 15, you have to be enrolled in Driver's Ed. If he's not going to take a Driver's Ed class, then he can't get his permit until he's older, I thought it was 15 1/2 or 16? Not 100% sure of the age, I just know it's later. DD is 15 1/2. Her high school doesn't offer Driver's Ed, so we are going to put her in a privately run program. She turned 15 last summer, but they didn't have openings until late October. Well I didn't want her starting out when it gets dark so early and with bad weather. I'm hoping to get her signed up in March after the days get longer and hopefully most of our bad weather has passed. It's a lot more expensive around here too, there were two programs close enought to be convenient and they were like $550 and $625. One of them is actually in town and she can take the school bus to her classes after school, so we are going with that one.

PS: You will probably want him to take driver's ed for the insurance discount. I hear it's huge for 16 yr old boys!

I was recently given the frame for one of those portable garages. Well This am I was thinking what do I do with it. Use it to make a coop for the flock of RIR bantam I am going to try to get...... OR use it to put plastic over it and call it a green house. The main problem with the green house idea is that I don't know where to get green plastic in large sheets and even if I did would it allow enough light in. And if I just put normal plastic on well that stuff is kinda clear/ white so it wouldn't really be a green house would it ???

I picked up my first roadside pallet today. How many do I need to build a coop for 4 birds? When I was putting the pallet in the garage, I noticed a large wooden packing crate for the first time. I'll ask Mr. Hallerlake if I can have it for my next coop.

I sure hope you aren't considering the school in Duvall. The one in that tiny strip mall across from Family Grocer?

They are a bad joke. $600.00 for what?
They drive electric cars. We had no idea when we signed our daughter up. Kids need to HEAR the engine to understand power.
The lack of drive time in that school is just unreal.
They spend the majority of their time sitting in a class room. Guess who really taught her to drive?
Their instruction books are terrible. The teachers are terrible.

State of Washington is a joke. To say no you can't get a license without going to one of the schools is a joke when some of the schools are just to make the operators rich.

$600.00 for ZIP!

I can't even begin to tell you how many things I've asked my daughter did they teach you this? No? $600.00 and I hear NO?

BTW.................... yes, I understand what else do you do? Drive all the way to Redmond? Woodinville?
If it was just a few nights one could deal with that.
I will deal with it anyways now with my son cause no way is that scam school going to get my money with my son.

Hallerlake. Go to Dunn lumber. You can get free pallets there. I get mine from the one in Bellevue but I'd imagine they all do the same. Been doing it now over ten years.

I had no idea how fortunate I was to take Driver's Ed in Mesa, Arizona. Not only was it pretty cheap, about $60 in 1989, but it was VERY thorough. We were given instruction not only in driving, hand/eye coordination, the limits of reflex action but also in how to change the oil, do a basic tune up and even change the tires. The local police came in and talked with us several times about driver safety, what to do when we have an accident, defensive driving, etc. We were given lists of emergency equipment to keep in the car (the desert can kill you after a break down) and shown various options for creating our own kits. The school district delivered a specialty trailer filled with simulators to practice our driving and we had special cars to practice with, under the direction of our varsity coaches.

Unfortunately, my driving coach was a jackass. We were asked to put in our schedules for drive time, which I did. I specifically mentioned that we were Jewish and I could not drive on Saturdays (they had after-school sessions, as well as weekend ones) nor could I do so during Hannukah and gave the dates for our annual trip that I was going to be out of town for. So, of course, he scheduled me on a Saturday during Hannukah. *eye roll* I tried several times to re-schedule and even after I found someone to swap dates with, he refused to allow me to do so. I made peace with my parents over driving on the sabbath, whined to my Rabbi (who suggested that the coach might be anti-Semetic and that being on my best behavior might heal his intolerance) and we canceled our Hannukah travel plans so I could go to my driving class. Unfortunately, I hadn't known at the time I was incubating a raging case of chicken pox which the coach caught from me.

Poor guy. *snort*

I have 10 pallets and 2 pallet crates sitting in my garage at the moment awaiting their new life as a chicken coop. I doubt I'll us all of the pallets, but they weremy first "find". Look on CraigsList, there are usually an ad or 10 in the free section from the larger stores trying to unload them. I got my pallets from what looks to be the main delivery/shipping building for Aslin-Finch (our local feed store) an they had hundreds of them piled up just waiting for someone that wants them! The pallet crates came from a local "discount" store here, also free. If you have the time and a little $ to spend as well, Home Depot has a culled lumber bin, the pieces aren't perfect, but they are cheap, I got pieces of OSB that are slightly under 4'x4' for about 50 cents a piece!
