Actually, I was told if they did not have the class....they could not get their license until they were 18. Omak school district does not hae a school run Driver's Ed so we have to go private...and it is awful. It is very expensive. If you miss a class it is an extra $50, if you don't turn in an assignment, it is an extra $50, if you do poorly on a test....yep $50. I don't like the people who teach it either. But we have no choices.
Trying to remember how it works here in Pierce County, since it was a whole 3 years ago... Most public schools were no longer offering Driver's Ed because of cutbacks. My daughter was attending Tacoma School of the Arts, and they don't have anything as far as extracurricular offerings, unless it's arts related. So when she was just 15, we signed her up for Driver's Ed at 911 Driving School which is taught by police officers. I believe the cost was just over $400, but she got through class very efficiently, had a good amount of driving time, and then we continued driving with her for the next year until she turned 16 the following June and she passed her driving test that week. It was pricey, but money well spent. She's been a very good driver thus far and although driving school is seldom fun, she said the cops teaching were pretty cool to work with.
