my sister feeds her dogs raw chicken.

When we picked up Gryffin, our Golden Retriever, from his breeder in Bend OR, she had very specific recommendations about his diet the first 2 years while he was growing and filling out. It consisted of a largely raw diet and I did feed him raw chicken and beef those first 18 months or so. It was supplemented with a special dry food, and frozen raw patties from the natural pet food store here in town. Gryffin's grandsire, Ch. Pebwin XPDNC has not only won Best of Breed at Westminster, but also won Best of Breed at both the east and west coast nationals. Gryffin is our silly, lovable pet quality baby boy, but I figured his breeder knew enough about raising beautiful dogs that I should follow her instructions during his growing years. Now, I feed a little differently, but raw frozen marrow bones and an occasional raw piece of meat are an occasional treat.

This time of year they will take any opportunity to take a cleansing flight. Basically honeys don't fly much below 50*. If it is a weak colony they could be searching for food by now.

IF you do put out sugar syrup make sure to USE ONLY PUER CANE SUGAR NOT beet sugar. Also this time of year the mix should be 2 parts sugar 1 part water. Easiest way to make this is heat the water to almost boiling then slowly stir in sugar. Make sure it is all dissolved and let it cool before serving.

What's wrong with beet sugar? Is raw sugar okay?

I am not what you mean by raw sugar. I have been told by my bee mentors that there is something in beet sugar ( I cant remember what) that is bad for bees.

Help me out here jbear or anybody else into beekeeping.

edited because my BYC version of spell chekc is defunktive.
