My dishwasher is loaded and broken. My sink is full of dirty dishes. I just ran out of dish soap, and I don't want to have to drive into town for more. What should I use? Ive got stuff like vinegar, borax, bleach...

You could use bar soap, tis what they used to use. Or I guess you could use like shampoo ..a little .. with a little bleach added but you would want to rinse them REALLY well in either case.

Borax is good for any kind of cleaning.I remember my grandma using laundry soap to wash dishes once. Maybe use baking soda and borax together.

What I understand is that REFINED Beet sugar is ok but unrefined is not. It somehow breaks down into bad stuff for the bees. Anyone else know?? I would probably go with either honey or pure cane sugar simple syrup... Like hummingbird food.. But I don't know sugar water ratio .. We haven't had to supplement but we also haven't taken any honey yet either. It is most for sure a straight up learning curve for us right now.

jbear from fall until they stop taking it and again as soon as you can start feeding in the spring it is 2 sugar to 1 water. Then through the summer it is 1water 1 sugar. Ialso highly recommend adding "Honey-B Healthy" 1 TBS per gallon.

Ok good to know.. What is the honey b healthy? Where do you get it and why do I use it? We have a lot of blackberry brambles and maples in the green belt and all around us. We try real hard not to supplement their food source if at all possible. We have divvied up the frames if need be. I guess we aren't really trying to grow brood and produce heavy honey loads.

Actually -- my husband is the bee guy. I just like to watch them being busy! Lol!!

What's Quincy?

I found some ancient bars of Ivory soap - smells like a campground shower. I think I will give it a try and just rinse well.

We have two. This is hive #1's second winter and hive #2's first winter .. They appear to be doing ok. They fly on warmer days. And the hives are buzzy. I can hear them. Our friend jack will come up on a warmer day soon and we will check hive happiness down inside.
