I was hoping that was because mine are not fully grown, darn. I noticed that my Buff Orpingtons aren't any where near as fluffy as the pictures either, and there is a huge diffference between my two. I guess they won't fluff up .... can't do the pink panther thing and toss them in the dryer.

I was looking for Dutch breeds of chickens since my mother is from Holland and she spent most of her summers working on her grandparents farm. She did not know what breed of chicken they had, other than they were brown. I showed her a few different ones, and she thinks they may have been the Barnevelders. She was from further south. I was there in 83 and took some photos that I can't find now, they likely just look like brown blobs as I was trying to get a photo of my great aunt, and they were just background. She and her sister and brother, all in their 80's and 90's at the time, and none had ever married. They were still running the entire farm and a hotel by themselves! It looked great! The hotel was no longer in use then, it was across the street from the train station, but the train no longer stopped in their little town, already for many years, but my great aunts still kept all the rooms fresh and the bar downstairs stocked! The hotel did not have a refrigerator, instead they had a cold cellar that was filled with barrels of nasty tasting white beans (mom loved them, they were reallly sour). They also had good stuff in there from the farm, lots of yummy apples and the delicious pies they made. They still used draft horses to pull the plows! Unfortunately, they all passed away, about one every 5-7 years, the last one I think in 2003. She still ran the farm, chopped down the Christmas trees, plowed the fields and fluffed up the duvets on the beds up until the day she died! A year earlier, when she was 80, she flew to California to visit us. She had never been out of Holland before, and hardly ever out of her town. She had never seen mountains! We took her to Mt. Lassen where she hiked to the bubbling hot sulpher pits on the Bumpass Hell trail! The trail was covered in snow, and she wore a dress, stockings and a sensible pair of dress shoes. She was so happy, never a complaint from her mouth! Because she worked the farm, she was more than fit to hike the trail like that. It probably felt like a walk in the park!

Edited to add:

They all lived to be well into their 90's or more, those 3 never married, but their brothers and sisters who did marry all died in their 50's and 60's of cancer. That sure says something for that lifestlyle! Illia, you are going to outlive us all! Just stay single.
