OMG, I was just going to say, DO NOT PLANT THE STUFF. It is invasive, I mean it kind of stays in a reasonable clump but heaven forbid you try to remove it. I sprayed a plant with roundup and thought I killed it as it was in a very bad location but the roots were ALIVE! and I made the mistake of rototilling before I realized it. EVERY piece of root sprouted a new plant. Word of warning, if you plant the stuff, do not rototill and plant it in a very AWAY location.

does not help.. the plant likes to "walk" I have one plant that we keep tight rein on and it walks across my flower bed every year and we keep putting it back in it's corner every year....

I don't know the "kind" off hand...I just boiught the seed packet with a picture of pretty blue ones on it...lol. No worries, I'm sure I can find a home for them along with the packet of Sweet Pea (that I returned to the store and the guy put them back in my bag when I left). Maybe I'll just plant the eggplant there...but that won't hide chickens very well, lol.

We had a great time! I can't believe how big your chickens are compared to mine! Those Black Orps are Turkey sized! No way would they fit through the door on my Eglu.

Olivia says: "Hi! I really love the chickies. I already named one them Flop because she loves to flop down under the heat lamp and sleep! I put some of my wood blocks in the brooder, and some of the chicks like to sleep on them, they look like they are on little tanning beds! I can't wait to get some of those super cute chickens with the feathers on their feet!"

We took the ferry home; that was soooo much easier! 3 streets, ferry, 3 more streets and I'm home! We lucked out with the timing, got on the ferry after no more than a 5 minute wait; very few cars were on it. I got the chicks in the brooder down in the basement near DD's harp. The dust is likely not so good for the harp, but now because the chicks are down there, DD is finally practicing! I took some photos, but the battery in the camera died, so it is charging before I can post them.

We stopped at the grange on the way home. Chatted with a nice man who donates the eggs from his birds to the food bank. I told DH, and now he wants to do the same; only I have way more people asking me for eggs than I have chickens to lay them!

how about grape vines? take a couple metal poles from old fence.. drill couple holes to string heavy wire... tie a pretty bucket with plant in it to each end of the wire. (this keeps the wire tight and the plant weighs down the wire.) weave grape vines on wires! edible green fence!

I have an idea for the Heavenly Blue Morning Glories. Been doing this for years. I plant the seeds in hanging pots in the greenhouse soon as it is a little bit warmer ( I can still do this because the birds don't fly up in the hanging pots in Green House) Then I hang the planters in trees around an about the yard. Need to be able to get water to them. The vines go up in the trees and in the morning it is so beautiful to see the bright blue flowers beaming down from the branches. I also plant MoonFlowers and sweet peas this way. Sometimes I will poke a few hanging plants also to fill it out. Just gorgeous and they don't reseed.

I don't know how to grow or find grape seeds! But I love the idea! Most of my gardening is done in planters, that way I don't have to worry about where power lines and such are in the ground. That and we have horrible soil here.... This year is my biggest plan yet for a garden, I was supposed to get a greenhouse built, but the cost of materials was just too high for that endevour.

I'm still trying to figure out where i'm going to put sunflowers that grow 8-10' tall in my yard! Lol.

So, where does one get grape seeds/plants in Eastern WA anyway...?

I'd ask a nursery or vineyard... just make sure its edible! Wine grapes are good as well as eating grapes... if push comes to shove and you can't find any at all I have one in my yard I can make a cutting from. Also grape is easy to make cuttings from if you know anyone with a good eating grape vine. just snip a stalk put rootone on it and stick in the dirt!

if you get good sun you might want to look into a hardy kiwi as well! if it has a lot of shade and water try oregon grape or salal again all are edible.

I have an aunt that has (or had, I haven't been to her house since she bought it from my great-uncle) grape vines, but she lives in Portland! So, it's a bit of a long drive for me, lol. I'll have to add a stop by the nursery to my list...it's on the way to Home Depot, so that's a plus, lol.

I too love the plants I can eat! I'm just not too great at getting them to grow, lol.
