Ok Vet techs, and dog breeders... I am spaying my mini dachsund, and want to know how long I should wait after a heat cycle to take her in? I know its more complicated of a procedure to do it when they are still in heat. So when should I majke the appointment for? Any estimated time period to be for sure that she is done? No clear signs for the past 4-5 days. And I dont want to deal with it anymore. Forget the previous owners agreement with the breeder, I'm SICK of it!

Anybody know?

Oh really? Well when you have the time, and you find it, please do email that to me. Wonder if these are the same hawthorns... I know that these are a hybrid cross, and have never seen berries on them. But then again these trees are HUGE and I dont get to see what grows up at the tops. lol Maby the berries that the article mentions are actually the budlets before they bloom? before the blossoms open they look like little white cherry clusters. Very pretty, and heavenly to smell when in bloom.

If I remember correctly, I was told by the Dr.s that my heart would never shrink back to its original size. So it will always be a couple cm larger than it is supposed to be... But I am willing to try holistic remedies, even though the Dr.s say it wont work.

Does anyone have any red clover growing? I really want to grow some this year, as it is FULL of anioxidents, and helps rid the body of certain nasty cells that I dont want to think about... Anyone? Or does anyone know a good nursery where I can get a good amount of Red clover?

If red clover is the same as crimson, you can get it from Territorial seed co. They sell the seed as crop cover so you can get it in large amounts(up to 100#) They also have mammoth red which can be planted any time of the year.

being a cats only hospital, we don't see that.
I always felt SO bad for those dogs.. they feel AWFUL, and it is so expensive to get them to live through the whole ordeal. Yes, a vaccine is much much cheaper.

Is there an exotics only vet hospital? I can't work with furry things anymore.

There is one on Aurora, on the south bound side of the road, just before you cross the aurora bridge. I can't remember what the office is called, but I used them for all my cockatiels, and parrots. I think the only furry critters they see are chichillas and such. maby a ferret, but as far as I can remember they do not do dogs or cats.
But I am not sure of where you are located, just thought I would throw that out there.

Thank you! I will go look through my catalog and see.

Brrrr - my fingers have been too cold to type, but it is a little warmer today. We had this house built with geothermal heat, only the dang contractor did not bury the pipes deep enough into the ground, so after a few days of freezing temps, the house gets mighty chilly! OUr back-up heat source is a great big fireplace. It is shallow with a tall opening, unusable unless you like listening to fire alarms. If the wind should gust, which it always does around here, the ashes go flying down the hallway. I spent the $ we saved for a wood stove on the chicken coop. Maybe I'll go hang out in there for a while .... I bet it is warmer!

Welcome back T-Hi. I hope you get a diagnosis and a simple cure real soon ... something like "eat 8 ounces of quality dark chocolate per day."

RFF - beautiful birds!

I'm gonna go do some work to try and warm up a bit ... I have a heat-lamp clamped over my keyboard right now!

My banty and fluffs like to fly up on the side of the feeder and tip it over spilling food everwhere

I'm going to try this

I just made 2! Took all of 15 min. I already had the buckets and it was suprisingly easy. The girls seem to like them, but I overfilled the first one and they threw some of the feed onto the ground. I took some out and didn't fill the other one as full, I will go out and check again later to see if they still managed to kick alot out. Very cheap and easy! Love it!

Do you sand down the edges of the hole?

Do you sand down the edges of the hole?

I cut the holes out and then used a metal file to smooth the edges, they aren't perfect, but they are relatively smooth and I made sure that there weren't any sharp, poky peices of plastic that the girls could hurt themselves on.

For those of you who give your hens ground egg-shells ....

Do you mix it with their feed and snacks or put it in a container to take free-will in plce of oyster shell?

I got another soft-shell today ... I think because the girls prefer the flock block to the layer feed. In the past I've mixed the egg-shells with whatever snacks I give, but they are so addicted to this flock block that they now only sample what I give them and then run back inside for more of the flock-block. Or maybe they are eating the flock block because it is in the warm coop verses the chilly runs where I toss the snacks with the frozen ground!

Ok, there's a bunch of gardeners on here....anyone ever read "The Backyard Homestead"?? I'm just starting it, and it looks great so far!!
