Okay, You struck a nerve here in regards to my DD. I went to post some rather personal stuff and thought better of it. I am going to email you with some questions. Please be on the watch for it.

Edited: Oh, btw....you were adorable.

heck ya I was cute, but am applesauce ugly now !!

Feel free (notice I offer her services) to ask Illia about GF foods as well, many members of her family are celiac and have some other allergies as well...Illia has lots of great recipes !

Well, maybe I should go ahead and post what I put in the email to you, so that if Illia or any others have any thoughts for me....

Okay, CL....I need you to talk (LOL) turkey to me. I was just checking out my DD - now remember she is dark complected as she is hispanic, but she could have what I would call "shiners". What really struck me was when you said big bellies. She does not have stick legs....but she does have quite a bigger belly than many of her friends. Kids grow differently, but she just seems bigger. I even took her to a local doctor to ask why she had such a "pot belly". He told she was not obese. Her face, legs, arms are all normal, but her belly just looks too big to me. She is almost 10 and she is starting breast buds.

Okay, remember my DD history. She was born addicted to methaphetamines, 18 hours of withdrawals. She is main stream school and sharp as a tack. No ADD or ADHD.

....okay, any thoughts?

that's all I needed to hear..I already avoid cured meats but that is nasty to hear..we will be having a few weaners here maybe by early summer, got another big coop, A BARN, and a pig corral to build.. I will have at least 2 pigs at a time, it isn't good to just have one alone, it will not compete for food and not put the weight on fast as they need to.
So maybe 3..I am sure we will have no trouble selling fresh un chemicalled pork.
We will also cured & smoke the sausage & picnics and bacon..no chemicals, just good ol molasses, salt & spices.
CR has alot of recipes bet~~

sounds like celiac disease to me.
Classic...and she probably has no gut pain now as she is young..also check into other diseases such as Chrone's and Ulcerative Colitis, talk to T-Hi about that, she knows more than I.
I do have several customers who buy eggs from me (to eat) that have Chrones, and have a hard time with store bought eggs they think from the battery of antibiotics & hormones battery chookies are fed.
Even the ones that declare "cage free" "free range" and "hormoe and antibiotic free" still can upset one man to the point where he is forced to stay home for 2 or 3 weeks and take immunal suppresants for the intestinal attack that results.
He can eat my bird's eggs just fine (maybe because they are expensive !!)
Most of these folks are going through egg withdrawals right now as #1 my birdies are just cranking up lay and #2 the eggs are collected, marked, stored, and put in my incubator every 5-7 days.
$3 for a doz purebred fertile Blue Ameraucana eggs ?

This is why last spring, I called Murray McMurray and ordered 25 Barred Rock Pullets.
So we would have breakfast

But we do have the Rhode Island Whites laying now...giant snow chickens...so there be breakfast.

4cats...I never had stick legs either, and to add: In most cases of celiac disease they say diareah, and never had that either, quite the opposite, so now everyone knows that stupid old stuffy constipated chickielady...

!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG that is so funny if it only were !!

4312 - Does your DD drink cow's milk? Yogurt? Other dairy products? Hard cheeses such as cheddar are very low in lactose but the soft cheeses are higher. I didn't find out until I was 32 that I was lactose allergic!

I also do not eat red meat. I can do hamburger occasionally because it has already been ground up so it is not as hard for my body to digest. But steak or roasts! No way!!

It dawned on me that I should have asked a real question to get an answer...but yes...I guess what I was asking is from you with experience with these different disorders...do any of these symptoms sound familiar.

I will do some asking around for a doctor that might be open minded and actually listen to my questions and not blow me off as some hyper mom. She does not have diarrrhea...infact more often is constipated....I tell her she needs to eat more veggies and fruit. But, maybe it is more than that. Thank you.

Yes, she does and love it..so lots. 2% milk. Cheese sticks. Yogurt when I have it in the house. Sour cream, etc. She is a dairy hound. Pizza. I try to blend our red meat intake with some vegetarian dishes (which the teenage boys absolutely hate) and some pork or chicken or fish every week. I try to mix it up.

how do I test her for lactose intolerance? Do I go to a physician and ask for allergy tests? Does anyone have a favorite web site. My web site time reading is limited as right now I only have 1 day a week off. I like to save my computer time to catch up on BYC

I would hate to lose that time.

again, thank you so much.

Hard cheese that are allowed to seperate, the fat goes to the top & is made into cheese, and the whey which is almost 99.9% protein, is drained off, and used elsewhere.
The culprit is most often the protein, not the fat that causes allergies it is most often the protien, ie: shrimp, soy, dairy, gluten (wheat protein) fish, etc, all proteins !
So, that is why I can eat a cube of butter & am fine, and I can usually have a reasonably dose of cheese, (not blue) but, if I drink (cow) milk, watch out, and this includes lactose free milk.
It is not the milk sugar (lactose) in cow's milk that upsets my sytem, it is the casien, or cow's milk protein.
Goat milk has a much smaller protein molecule, and I can drink it by the gallons ! So excellent & creamy, have to get fresh goats milk, (((not canned )))
Goats milk protein molecules are almost identical to human milk, and so we can digest it easily.
The fat molecules in goats milk are smaller too, much easier to digest.
The fact that the cream will not float to the top in goat milk is evidence too...there are ways to seperate the cream/fats from the milk..ask Zgoatlady, but most fresh goats milk tastes a whole lot like cow's half & half, I LOVE IT!!
And it has never upset my system and it is highly recommended to babies for this very reason..and on top of that, have you ever drievn by a cow dairy ?????????????????? And smalled the dairy-air ?????????????????? I really do not want a gass of cow's milk after that..ewwwwwwwwwww.

She might hate you for this but cut her off cold turkey from ANY dairy! That means ice cream, sour cream, yogurt, any soft cheese, creamy salad dressings, cream soups..... ect...

It will take a couple weeks to a month for her body to adjust but I would bet that she will feel better sooner. Once her body is fully clear of the lactose proteins you will find that when/if she does ingest any then she will feel bloated, full, upset tummy.

A good way to switch her to rice or almond milk is by buying the UNSWEETENED plain kind and then buy a chocolate kind (rice or almond) and mix them half and half. Much easier to adjust to the different consistency and taste if your drinking chocolate milk!!

At her age I would be careful with to much soy milk. It can screw with estrogen levels and she doesn't need that going into puberty! But Soy Dream or Rice Dream make YUMMY ice cream. Mix with the chocolate rice milk for a nummy shake!!!

I have found that Fred Meyers has an awesome selection of Dairy free & gluten free stuff!!
