I just listed 4 free 18 week old splash BLRW boys on craigslist. I really need them gone before I go out of town. If anyone wants to come get one or more today or tomorrow, please let me know asap. They do make for good eating as they are a dual purpose bird. We had plans to process them on Sunday but I don't have time now.

And your % would be right if I remember my numbers correctly...
All are back in bator as I will not toss any eggs until day 14 just in case.

Quick newbie question: Since I think I'm supposed to be picking up a couple of birds from Monroe to bring home is there an official piece of equipment I'm supposed to be using? I have a couple of dog crates, one open wire crate that is approximately 28" long X 20" wide and 20" tall. It has a slide out tray. I also have a couple of cardboard cat carriers with handles. Are those suitable for a 1 1/2 hour ride home?

Also worried that the coop's not going to be finished in time unless the weather cooperates with DH's schedule. But again, I have Golden Retriever crates, Pom crates, flight cages and a large wire bunny cage. Is that suitable temporary housing for (I think) 8-10 week old pullets? I was thinking of even ordering a Chick-N-Hutch from Petco for future isolation housing. DH could probably throw together a small, transportable run to attach to something like that.

My wife was born and raised in Sendi Japan. That was the epacenter of the quake. She just talked to her brother and found out that their family is okay.
Nevertherless, still no word from her mom, dad, and grandma. We were up till about 1:15am tring to get ahold of them.
They still don't have power, the store's are empty.

Oh my gosh... I saw the news for Wed.s quake but just saw they had another. So sad. We know a family in southern Japan so I hope they are o.k. We will certainly pray and hope for those you know there, too.

I thought yours have tufted heads, not butts.

For transportation any box that is big enough will do. Rabbit cage will do until the coop is built. If it is to cold outside you can use a big plastic tote as a brooder.

I have seen people use pillow case to transport birds.
