never heard of that.

I have heard of someone theorizing that on one thread or another. It does work for seaturtle eggs and some amphibians. Doesn't hold weight for the chickens- or so it is said. I have no experience and am only a chicken novice (only girls on this farm- DH is ok)

Are the Marans eggs "1st gen olive egger eggs" tend to be tougher/thicker? Ive had 2 more ameraucanas hatch out in the same time the 1st gen has been zipping. Just wondering if those eggs take longer to hatch...

I guess if it were true you'd not want to buy hatching eggs before May in the north!
Anyway, these little guys have got to go if anyone is interested in Cuckoo Marans cockerels(1 mth old). I'm keeping only one to make a trio out of.

So now that I am caught up. Again! Finally!

I'll share some good news! Looks like we're moving to the 'burbs. The house we've made an offer on a few days ago reached mutual satisfaction on our requests from the inspection contingency. We'll be closing on 4/21/11! Very exciting! First time home-ownership! (DH owned a condo before, but a house is much different). We'll be increasing our lot size from 8,000 to 10,000sf. That's a 1/4 acre!

The hens will have a full-sun area in the backyard and we'll be using the large shed we bought in the fall for them. I'm sure they'll love gaining about 10 x the space of the coop!

Bad news is that Edmonds limit for chickens (hens) is 3. So we'll be fugitives... We'll have to convince the neighbors to not turn us in with bribes of fresh eggs.

As soon as your Easter Eggers get shoulder, wing, and tail feathers - I'll be able to sex them for ya.

Normally though the redder combs should come in by 5 weeks of age on males.

I know what that feels like...My uncle & I were preparing till the last min. getting his dolls ready for a NY Doll Show, and we were working on the air plane as well, and in the hotel.
Just take pictures of your merchandise, make one of each, and if you sell out, have folks take orders from your "catalog". Don't sweat the small stuff.

Marans eggs in general often do take longer. Whether there be an Olive Egger in there or a Marans. . . They're often the last to hatch for me, although lately they were the first.
