Is it safe to go to Monroe feed tomorrow? I promised my DS the reptile zoo after mommy gets a bag of feed.
I don't have a boat...not yet. Just a car.

coming from ?? woodinville? yeah take 522 it should be ok. I expect duvall to flood here shortly and roads to close, the news says by friday MAJOR flooding from carnation to snohomish.

I feel for y'all! Being from Chehalis, we know all about it. Got floooded out of our home in 96' and moved out within 6 mths. Vowed never to live in flood zone again! We are up on a high hill like you now. We joke that if we ever flood that Noah better pull the ark out of mothballs.

I can smell a smoker. The smell comes from their skin. No amount of mouthwash will wash that out and IVORY soap doesn't work either.
I'm glad nobody smokes at our house. My father & step dad were chain smokers. Second hand smoke? You bet. We use to have to sit in an airconditioned car with dad's smokes. He even did pipes & cigars one time & my mom said no. Too stinky.
My youngest brother smokes 1 a day. He was sent to China by Microsoft. It is the business culture there.
No way around it...that's his story...

My son Evan had quit, and then he went to Spain for a competition. It's the culture there, too. He's still smoking.

does having my friend help me in making an electronic spinning wheel out of a sewing machine sound like a fair trade for helping him make a heavy hydrogen collider (fusor).....

it doesn't sound like an even trade off to me.....

(i think he was joking about it.... but when he sent me the link to fusor.net i realized there are people constantly trying to make an $150million technology out of scrapmetal in their yards.....)

sometimes i think there are a few drawbacks to being friends with graudate students who are genuis's with too much free time. (he researches modifying wheat to be more drought resistant)

-sigh-

Not quite the same. Selective breeding doesn't introduce genes. it only selects from the ones that are already there. it certainly doesn't introduce genes from a non plant.

that would fall more under the US legal terms of genetic engineering. legally the rna function can be triggered to switch off using a gene therapy but since it is different and not dna and not "putting a fish in a tomato" then those plants do not have to be labled gmo. the legal verbage is very tricky and there are new techniques all the time. like the newest thing is RNAi manipulation. so you are not messing with the DNA but the things that actually mess with the DNA itself, tweaking the way RNA's work.... instead of making codons it can become a stop codon instead..... and legal terms cannot keep up with science.

what about the potato that lacked the gene resistance but they borrowed the gene from a different potato? instead of breeding what if they speed up the selection process by inserting gene X then propagating with markers to know that the resistance was successfully cloned in instead of the old fashioned of pollinate and wait.

or how about a tomato plant with potato genes.... or a cherry tree with plum genes that are resistant to rootknot nematode?

i enjoy debates like this because it allows me to test what i know and to also force me to research into some material further... and it allows me to learn better by "bouncing" ideas off people. i also enjoy debating and this is a good topic that people can be knowledgable about and not easily offended. i realize some of the things i learn can be applied towards chicken but it would have to be tweaked and mammals cannot easily be asexually propagated so chickens would have to be more gmo made rather the slow process of breeding and elimination. sometimes things or understanding thaings allows better insight to other applications
