That is great news that almost all are clear, but what stood out in your post was soft water. We don't drink the water that comes out of the faucet in Oskaloosa, we fill our 7 gallon water containers up at Wal-Mart. Soft water, cool.

From the head water guy in our town
"Our water comes from well down in the bottoms. Very high mineral content. This means HARD water. City of Lawrence shoots for a hardness of 100, ours is 325 +. This mineral content also carries a small amount of taste aswell.
"

My water comes from an Aquifer 1000 feet beneath the mountains. I belong to a teeny tiny water cooperative, and they brag their water is the cleanest in the nation. It is not fluorinated nor chlorinated, only filtered. The mineral content is so low that I must add calcium to our little swim spa. I can add it straight to my fish tank without any pre-treatment. Water in other places, even fairly local, all taste like pool water to me.

Someday I need to come to North Bend and drink the water.

I am teasing, how I break tension. You are in my prayers tonight and I bet there is nothing wrong. Going to Omak Clinic? I think they open at 7....I would start calling them every 60 seconds until you got an answer.

Yeah....I know....

Yes, it's Omak and yes, they open at 7am. Which is the same time I have to be at work. Luckily, I'm one of only three people there on Fridays so I'll be calling first thing in the morning to see what's up.

it'll be all okay...

... I think I'll go check my BCM, just in case. Glad you got that one resolved. How did the vet "reach in"?

4 days in a row now I have 10 eggs from 11 birds. Everyone but the BCM, unless the BCM lays ordinary brown eggs and I'm missing it because I am expecting something dark.

She should lay nice dark eggs or you might see a med brown with dark spots.

Then she has not laid since the day after I brought her home. That egg was fairly dark with really dark speckles. I checked her out this evening, and she seems perfectly fine. Had a hard time catching her though! she darted all over the placae, then DD just walked right over and picked her up and handed her to me without any fuss at all

(With the other hens, it is the other way around). She's not swollen or bloated, looks very healthy, not picked on. Olivia just named her "Emerald" because of the irridescent green in her feathers. She seems to be queen of the roost because she was accepted by the others with no fuss, and at night she always has the most coveted spot on the roost, right in front of the window. She flies up even when the roost is full. She uses her head to nudge the others away. She does not peck, just pushes gently and persistently until she has her spot, and cleared out space on either side of her. Maybe she's one of those hens that decides she's a roo.

Eeek! I'm over 800 posts

Maybe I'll send you a bottle - something that fits in one of those flat fee boxes!

Just-Bugged -

I am very worried about you. You told me something about DH travel plans at Blueducklings secret meeting. Please resume your night post.

I don't break the wing joint, and I pop the hip joint while cutting the thigh off, helps keep the skin even. The breasts though... I want a way to get the breast off without having to get into the body cavity without having to dissect the breast off of the bones. This would allow me to do a bantam without having to clean the body cavity, which is what slows me down.

When a hen is moved to a new place they may lay the eggs they have ready and then wuit unitl they become accustomed to their new environment.

I've never hunted,.. but I have a long story involving a crazy friend and a wood duck his six month old cat caught (terminally injured). Anyhow, it ended with me breasting out a duck for the first time- although I did go back and remove the thighs.
