The potluck for eenie is on May 16th. I need to check on the free community room here in town. What is everyones thought about this. We could hold it here at my house, and if the meaties are big enough we could do a freezer camp school then. The meaties would be only be 7 weeks old on that weekend so I am not really sure that the birds would be ready yet. Poor eenie could end up learning more than she wants too.

I am thinking that I need to wait until the meaties are at least 9 weeks old. So June 4th or the 11th will most likely be when we do that camp. So I guess that there will be a lot of partying around here.

Well if we do the canning at your house, then we can do the freezer camp at mine. I need to do the actual kill this year. I haven't done that part yet. But with the kill cone (aka a used traffic cone) and a pair of sharp pruning shears, I am going to have to do the deed. Anyone that wants to watch or would like to bring some of their own birds to process, please feel free to come. At this point it looks like we are going to have the freezer camp school on either May 28th, or June 5th. If we want we could do a potluck for lunch.

I'm in! I'll post photos of my roos before then so I will know which ones to keep! Do you ever order extra meaties and sell them once processed? I'm running out of room with all my egg birds! I guess I could put up another fence, and I do have 2 empty tractors. My yard is nothing but mud, so I have stopped using them.

Knowing that far in advance would be great. I'm owed some favors at work, so I can probably get off that day.

Imp- JB, the avatar is a totem pole from my hometown.

Oh, well then maybe I need to grab JB and drive over there when they are ready for canning season, and Pears too.
Our apricots in California are usually ready to pick/eat/can the end of April !!!
But not this year, they are suffering from wet & cold just like here...maybe another month they will be ready.

Gulp!!! Help me! Help me! Chickie is going to grab me.

I would love to go with you to get peaches and apricots this year.

we are going to have asparagus by the end of the month (depending on weather)

then mid june it will be cherry season... then blueberries.... apricots...... plums... early peaches (we don't like them because they are semicling and so that is a small crop before the freestone come into season) then normal peaches, apples, pears... also throughout we have vegetables.... once open we won't be closed till the end of october or mid november (depending on weather) we'll be open every day, no holidays....

That sounds like a great idea .... now I'm paranoid that my birds will get sick. I think I had beginners luck with the first 10. I just started lettiung the tweens out in the run a few days ago. It is on woodchip in the kids old playground.

I just paid $15 per 8oz for organic beef. Got it as a treat for DH.

That's pricey! I hope it tastes awesome! I get my beef from West Valley Beef in Duvall - 1/4 each fall. That is way more beef than our family eats. I'll gladly trade some of it for other foods (fish and other seafood are high on my list, yum!) The beef is not certified organic because they don't won't the expense of going certified. I can't remember how much I pay .... since I get little bills a few times a year, it does not seem to be terribly expensive. I think I pay $150 in March, $100 to the butcher and the balance (another $200 or so) when they kill and weigh it. I got over 200 pounds of meat this fall. Usually it is not quite that much.
