The Purple Finches end up doing a considerable fraction of the pollinization in the apple orchard here. Which is good because I've seen narry a bee this spring, except for the giant clumsy Queen Bumblebees, as big and my thumb and as stupid as rocks.

I have a willow tree, which I have been told is one of the oldest and biggest in the entire county and it has bloomed. You stand below this tree (which we cut the top 30 ft out of here a few years ago for its health) and all you hear is the buzz and hum of honey bees. One fell to the ground and, before the chickens ate it, I looked at it and it was so heavy with pollen.

I dont mind the crows, and I like the ravens a lot. they would come and tease my cows, yanking on their tails and then flapping away. I was amused lol. wild animals come to see you for a reason. they always make me feel at peace when they trust enough to just hang out in my presence.

Did you read my post from last night? All but 1 of my eggs showed activity. There were 2 I am questioning and marked...but ALL THE OTHER 24 of 28 showed veining and activity. Of the 28, I accidentally broke one. 1 showed either not fertilized or just clear cuz it was scrambled. I noted that the air sac was not fixed and did not look right. so that was 2 out. There are 2 I have ? on. So I am down to 24 that show clear busy activity. I can't believe it. So now we will see how many hatch.

Gorgeous photos. Also, the big bay mare of RedReiner's was beautiful too.

Your paint in her before photo, looks 100% better than the small herd down the road from me. They are walking skeletons and she continues to breed them. They are of a decent blood line too (I have been told). They get numerous calls on them (all we have to call is the Sheriff's office - and I have) but still, her yearlings looks just awful.

If anyone in my area would like to have, I have some 5' chain link that I do not need. There is probably about 150-200'. It was given to me, so if anyone wants it ....I will just pass it on. NO $$$$. PM me or just on here , whatever works for you. If you can come and get it you can have it. I need to let you know it was lying in some grass when the fire went through Pleasant Valley a few years back. So it is blackened, but there is nothing wrong with it. The fire "flashed" over the rolls of wire. I have used some of it, but I just don't need all of it.

If anyone has questions regarding the fire....ask RFF...she was in the middle of it and can give you a first-hand account of how scary it was.

me me lol

Okay, so in approx 14-15 days, my eggs will hatch that are in my bator. ya' gonna sell me some? LOL.

I need some advice. That neighbor dog I told you all about a while back.....the pitbull? He got out today and went after my chickens. He got ahold of my Orpington and pulled out almost 1/2 of her feathers and chewed on her. She is amazingly alive and alert, walking and picking at food. I looked her over really well and cleaned the torn skin and abrasions, but I did not see any punctures. I am worried about internal injuries. What do I look for? I have her in a wire dog crate in my shed right now. How long should I keep her seperate? Can I let her out for a little while with her sisters if she seems up to it? It was a horrible experience watching that D@mn dog run around with her and chew on her. I thought she was dead a few times, but then she would look up at me or move a little and I would yell and scream some more. I yelled and swore at the neighbors to come get their F'ing dog, and that if he came back I would kill him.

(I didn't have any ammo for my 20ga shotgun here, Applesauce!) I am going to file a formal complaint with animal control, and find out what my rights are for protecting my animals. I live in unincorporated King County so I think I can legally fire a gun, but not exactly sure about shooting the dog. I think it's fine though.

I have been so nice yet direct about the fact that she needed to find away to keep him in their own yard. I have not been that angry in a long time. My DS was the one who caught the dog, they have absolutely NO control of him. And I plan on telling animal control all about it. He almost got ahold of my Marans just before we caught him. After catching up with him and somehow getting my Ginger back, he looked to be heading home, then the boy who he belongs to came out with his friend and kind of slowly walked to try to get him. The stupid dog then heads back to my yard!!!! I yelled at the two boys to get him and they said they were trying. I said then they better run instead of walk or I was going to go get my shotgun out and shoot him. That got them to hurry a little. It didn't help much because the dog is out of control. The boy chased him all over my pasture and all over my yard. We finally cornered him by my chicken coop of all places!!!

SO, any helpful advice on how I should take care of my girl would be greatly appreciated. I hope she is ok.

I was not familiar with magpies until I saw them all over the campus at WSU. I don't believe we have them on the west side of the mountains. I thought they were pretty but I don't know anything about them. Are they nuisance birds?

We call them "camp robbers" and they live up to this name. Don't leave anything laying around as they will take it, especially if it is shiny - like my hair barrett. But then again, the hot dog buns were yummy for them too. They are a pretty bird, but they are glorified crows...but I kinda like crows too. Whenever I see one it makes me think of the Movie "The Stand".

Okay, here is a photo of a magpie:

Yep, those are the ones all over the WSU campus! We also saw quite a few during the long, interminable drive through the Palouse. But by the time we get to the mountain pass there's no sign of them.
I imagine there's lots of pickings for them around campus if they're after stuff people leave laying around. Although every time I've been there I've noticed campus is kept pretty clean.
