Opps I forgot to take the numbers off http://photobucket.com/albums/dd413/rainwolfbirds/Chickens/Chicks/

OH thankyou! your right they are much darker!! I agree with you on the layers that's kind of my plan, I will eventually replace all the hatchery chickens with one's I either hatch myself from stock I get from people here or on the auction site here trying to move away from that source!!

Someone had some GORGEOUS Citron Spangled Hamburgs for sale in the auctions....had it been a pair (and not as spendy, I would have gone for it). I think it was 3 roosters, 2 hens and some unsexed chicks for $200). No one bid.

If no one bid, I would contact the seller and try to work something out. I do things like that.

Do they package feed and water necessary for the trip or does someone along the line tend to them? I understand this is a rather dumb question, but, I've been following the thread and have been quite curious as to how this is accomplished without the traveler becoming quite famished.

RFF: You look like you are doing the same thing I am doing....since the weather is so crummy. I am cleaning some house - get on computer. Cut some coupons and organize - get on the computer. Cleaned brooder box - get on the computer. etc, etc, etc.

It just keeps raining. There for a moment I thought there was a break in it....but nope. So, I guess I will go and unload the dishwasher. I have scoured all the craig's lists in my general region....even some from the Westen Region. Made hotel reservations for DD and I as we are having a girl's weekend in Wenatchee and then picking up Seramas from Jbear in Leavenworth (sorry my brain just went numb and I can't spell).

Time to clean something else - then I will come back for a visit on here.

......What do you do with all the eggs ?

Eat them! (Only 8 are laying - the rest are too youn, wrong sex, or broody). If I had 100 hens I may be able to meet egg demand from neighbors and friends. So far I have 17 people on my wait list in addition to my 2 regular customers (well one now since all the broodies have slowed production!). Maybe I need to charge more. I ask $3.50 per dozen.

I have no experience with English Shepherd. But with all of my Aussies I have just shown / told them what is to be left alone. IMHO there are a few very important things to do. First start working with them when young, I do not use treats for training, I reward with love and praise (lots of it). And here is my big one. If you talk to them and treat them like a person they will respond accordingly. If you treat them like dog then that is all you will ever have is a dumb dog!!
For your dog I would hold a chick up and let the dog check it out while talking telling to be nice, leave it alone etc. Then any time you catch the dog watching say leave it and make them move away from where the birds are.

Pretty much my technique; my dogs have had to be taught to be kind to cats, babies (The Nephew is younger than both my dogs) calves and now chickens, thus:
