I guess that is the definition of a relay. I just can't believe strangers would be so wonderful to want to help me out like that. I just wondered if there was a catch! I hope it works out. The farm store where I got him will take all roosters back and try to re-home them. If I do that, I don't know where he will end up. I would rather know he is going to a good home.

If you stick around long enough, you will find that the Wa thread chicken addicts are a great, kind, helpful bunch of peeps!

I have a friend who is extremely picky about everything she eats - everything organic, as fresh as can be, cooks nearly everything herself rather than buy anything that has been made up (she won't even buy maynaise - she makes it!); she's a total health nut until it comes to flies ...

I was at a dinner party at her home once, all the food was set out buffet style, and a fly flew in when someone opened the screen door. There she went, chasing the fly with a darn can of Raid, must have emptied half the can all over the kitchen with all that exposed food, and when the fly fell to the countertop but was still twitching, she screamed and proceeded to drown it with the remainder of the can.

I didn't eat; borrowed someones cell phone to ring mine and made an excuse to go home.

She rarely goes out to eat, and when she does go out it is either vegetarian or seafood (Blueducklings has met her). She loves seafood, but her DH hates it, so when she visits, she'll bring a bunch of food here and we will cook it up together rather than go out. She once saw me pour salad dressing out of a bottle, and the next time she came it was with a recipe book of salad dressings! (She ate her salad dry when I had only the bottled stuff). What I find so funny is her kids absolutely refuse to eat her cooking, so she has hot dogs in the fridge for them, and her DH picks them up fries from McDonalds! At least she does not feed them the chicken McNuggets!

I'm sad about all those poor little chicks

I'm sitting here wasting time till CR's first RIR B hatches. Gotta make sure it will be ok! 1 LS out, 2 to go!
And that chick that was born with an 8mm hole for a navel is still kicking! It didn't die from infection! So the kids are calling it 'Miracle.' It's growth was slightly stunted. It is only a little bit bigger than the LS that just hatched even though they are almost a week apart. But it's eating and drinking and being bratty!

I had a busy day! Moved the Barnies from the big coop to an Eglu tractor, moved the 4 huge orpington chics (2 lav, 2 black; i think 2 pullet 2 cockeral) in with the hens. They are bigger than the hens, but my 2 SLW's push them around! Then I completely emptied and scrubbed the big coop (yet again - can't seem to go more than a month before I get grossed out wondering what all is living in that deep litter feeding on the chicken poo). Put my 8 pullets from the Grange in with my 5 pullets from CL in the other half of the big coop, moved the broody on the marans eggs from CGG into a cage; that broody had a conniption, so I moved her and the eggs back to where they were ... will need to keep a close eye on them and grab them when they hatch as I think the fall from that nest will kill them of the other hens dont!

Took the plastic eggs away from another broody and put her in a bare cage with nothing but food and water, she's having a conniption too, but I don't care. Took the old eggs away from a third broody (cochin) and felt awful when she and the roo saw what I had done and the roo especially acted very upset. He doesn't seem to understand that if he had been doing his job properly, the chicks would have been here nearly 2 weeks ago! Broke them all open, all looked like normal eggs, no development, not even any odor!

Come dark, the Barnies did not know that the green plastic box attached to their new run is their coop. Had to get DD to crawl into their run and move them one at a time into the coop.

Attempted to block off all possible entries for rats into the big run, thought I had done that before, but they found places to squish between the hardware cloth and frame. I'll check the feeders for rat poo in the morning. I'm ordering a rat zapper as I'm afraid my dogs would either eat the poisoned rats or get a nose/paw stuck in the traps. Was happy to see no signs of rats in the coops.

Started my seeds over because the others all got leggy and dampened off

DH is building me a bench to put in the cochin run/greenhouse so I can move the plant starts there where there is more light

Wysteria is starting to bud now, pretty soon there will be blooms then leaves. Need to cut it back before it darkens my greenhouse!

Helped kids with lots of homework

made dinner at 10 pm (scrambled eggs with herbs from the garden - that is all I had energy for.)

Off to bed - need to get up early and clean as guests are coming tomorrow (one with rotten kid), and Monday (one who likes Raid).

she bit one last week and it limped for a while, its a lot better now though. I have field fencing around her pen but they squirmed under somewhere. I cant help them if they are determined to go visit with her. she does know better but that doesnt mean she can resist temptation. and Thank You Sadie Sue, at least it was a rooster, not that it deserved it but I have more boys than girls

I have a bad feeling about my chick, The leg doesn't seem to be getting better. She is adapting, but we probably should put her down.

Oh, that's so sad.

That's why our miracle chick is still here. I just didn't have the heart to cull it. Figured I'd let it work it out. Sometimes they do but sadly, sometimes they don't.
