I noticed too - and that may be a side benefit to acquiring our birds from someone we know. I'm reminded of you often when I interact with our light sussex and barnevelder and appreciate the care they were given before they came to live with us. I also think of you when I'm enjoying my chicks since 2 of them are the light sussex's babies. They are growing like crazy and are so personable. The little roo will have to find a new home and I worry about his future, but I sure am attached to them. I'll have to post pics of them soon since all the chicks are nearly out of their "ugly" stage.

Just wanted to jump into this post and say that I love my Speckled Sussex! She is so personable and jumps into my lap or if I am squatting she jumps on my leg. I would definitely get more in the future. Light, Speckled, Coronation. Any of the above.

I have been on strike before, spoiled me you know... company paid the bare minimum and refused to give promised raises. no benefits, refused to pay for hours worked even though law said they had to, they would come up with all sorts of fibs to keep from having to pay you, when turned into L and I they would pay then start all over again trying to not pay. sent to prevailing wage jobs they would lie and tell you they did not have to pay PW until turned in and forced to pay. hostile work enviroment, lots of screaming and yelling and occasionally physical violence against employees. so the union stepped in and we were locked out. on strike, we won in court. yep I guess we were spoiled and should be happy we even had a job. glad nobody ran me over for standing up for workers rights. although I did get hit by a truck... I did get threatened by a man to have my teeth knocked out. yep spoiled!

I would love to have Buff, Brown or Speckled to add to the Light from RFF. Anyone know of a breeder here in Wa? I would drive to go get them. Shipped eggs are dissapointing. At least what the POST does to them!

I think we used to play Lebam teams when I was in HS at Napavine. Probably lost to you guys. We lost to just about everyone.

CL- Just think about how all those employers would feel having teens working for them. In my experience, there would only be a small handful willing to work diligently. The rest... well... corp training might be good! Boot camp to whip them into shape so they are ready to really work! Attitude is everything IMHO.

I have had great kids work for me in the past.
You would be surprised how motivated they can be when it all comes down to something that intrigues them, captures their minds & hearts.
We all have (hoefully) experienced that passion before, and hopefully not experienced the dread that can completely over take a person stuck in a dead end boring job that they hate so much it is hard to get out of bed...such as yet another dreary boring day in HS.

My got my first "real job" when I was 14 years old. I worked as a waitress, at a small diner in Suquamish, made $4.75 an hour. I loved it, and worked there until I was 16. During my freshman year of HS, I started vocational training at a tech school. Took Cullinary arts for 8 months. Outside of school, I was in training as an aprentice, for farm management. Spent five years working under a couple farm managers, mainly focussing on horse farms. Ive been doing this ever sence then. I gave myself two options in career choices, and chose the one that fits me best...
