He was 8 weeks old when I got him. As of now he is almost 4 months old. He has a dark beard so it blends in with his coloring.

These are Wheaten/Blue Wheaten, so carry the brown/red & blue genetics and have a blue beard.
Shows up really good.

Come to think of it! herbandtes, your boy looks allot like my Olive egger cockerals!

Not quite 3 mo old, I doubt he is doing the job...you have any strays visiting, or a hen who is really a cock ?

No visitors unless they are majically teleporting into my coop, and then out again. And unless a unisexed hen/roo can lay eggs and breed!? lol Not thinking so.

Sussex are great.

My MIL has Australorps and she loves them. They range well and produce more eggs than any other breed I've seen. Wyandottes are not known for their high productivity. My bantams do okay...but not as well as some of the others although better than the cochins because so far, I have not found any of the bantam Wyandottes to want to sit.

Yes, I have heard Australorps are exceptional layers. And of course you need a couple of dark egg layers in your layer flock too! Marans, Welsummers, Barnvelders.............see how much help we are?

I have been amazed at the productivity from my 3 current layers. Every day I am going out to find one egg each from the Light Sussex, the Barnevelder AND the Ameraucana. One pretty peach egg, one dark brown, and one green/blue. Since VelvetFog already has his Easter Egger, I'd vote for the Sussex or Barnevelder! Love those girls.

Oh yes. And a Creve!

They lay HUGE white eggs and don't eat very much.

Then you'll get brown, white, blue and dark brown eggs!

makes for a pretty dozen!

Oh! Oh! And an Olive Egger or too! Need that nice color dark green to round out the pretty dozen!!!

Oh thanks for the reminder - I think *I* still need one of those to round out the color in my egg basket!

How can you stick to just 2 breeds VF? Good thing you're an excellent coop builder!
