Worst thing about this week is that not only was Monday the big Patriline Reunion, tomorrow is the same thing for Mom's side of the family, which involves WAY more people (Dad was the eldest of six, Mom the eighth of twelve) and, unlike walking up the hill to my cousin's house involves one of those Puget Sound Special trips out to the end of Johnson Point/to the other end of the nearest fjord. Also I've been hit up for flowers for the to-do, not a problem in real terms, I've got a branch of the Brenda Colvin out by the Hamburg run which has scalped me several times this week, but it means that I've got one more hard task to do this evening on a day which will be hard enough to begin with because I still have chickens in four places and a lamb to move onto fresh pasture.

Just popping in for a quick hello!

My mom is in visiting from MASS, so haven't been online much. She is doing great by the way! Moving slow, but getting around ok with a cane and brace on her knee. Her knee still has no side-to-side stability, that will be a long time coming.

Mom goes home at the crack of dawn on Tuesday, so I'll be on more after that!

Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine!!!

We have still been pretty cool here. Most days in the mid-60's, a few cooler, not breaking 60, a half dozen or so in the 70's and a couple in the 80's. Not sure what it will be today, but I think it will warm up a bit. I'm going to fence my garden better. Darn chickens just killed my zucchini and strawberrys again, and ater all the bean plants. Grrr. 4' is too short. going for 7' deer fencing today, but what do I use for posts?

Drove the kids to seattle early this am and they are probably on the ferry now on their way to Orcas Island for the week. Anyone want to come over for the day (or slumber party ... I'm doing a thorough cleaning of the kids rooms!), PM me we can do beading or go get fruit and make jam. I'm going to try and make about 50 jars of strawberry and raspberry to keep the boy fed for the year. He's taller than Dad now!

Anyone coming to Seattle should let me know. The chooks and I would be happy to see them.

Oh, poo: Griz (Border Collie/Australian Shepherd, 14 years old) has a big swelling in the pointy bit of his ear- no visible wounds, and no particular heat nor tenderness or any stink or discharge. And of course I found it after the vet has closed for the day. Any thoughts?

Miguel has all sorts of benign lumps growing on him. It's a function of age. It could even be a bug bite. All you can do is watch it, and look up the emergency vet just in case.

Candled my spitz eggs last night. Five or six of the eggs in the mini incubator are developing. I need to check one with a more powerful flashlight when Mr. H gets home from Portland with it. The eggs under the Ginger have done nothing. I may try them under Carmen instead. I hate to throw them out even though they are a at least a week old. I'll give them another week under Carmen, and see if anything is developing at that point. Rainwolf lent me a back up incubator, but I can't get the temperature steady to save my life ( or the eggs lives).

I rigged up the nest inside the dog crate again, and put Carmen inside. She settled right down with a glazed look. I hope the eggs aren't too far gone, because this looks like it might work. I'm just sorry I didn't put her on in the first place.

In toppenish at swim meet. Julie I forgot to make arrangements to see you today.... we will be here tomorrow also. I am doing this from my phone I will try and get on my computer and post 2 night.

Most likely its a hematoma, blood pocket. If you have old nylons around cut a chunk out (no toe), put the ear flap so its up on the head & slip the nylon over the head to hold the ear in place, might need vet wrap also as I have found some nylons are just too stretchy. If it is a hematoma then it might drain the blood out natually. Most times dog still needs to have the pocket fixed or it will happen again. If it is a hematoma it was most likely caused from the dog flipping its head, ears bothering him? My Jack Russell got them from ear infections causing him to shake his head alot. His ear tips broke open on their own, messy. He had scars but his blood pockets were small so it hasn't happened again luckily.
