CR if you drill a hole in that type of waterer handle will it effect the vaccum ability of the top? I have the same problem going on- fixed the feeder but worried about the waterer.

NO NO NO I aint no fool ya drill the hole in the handle NOT the lid !!! By drilling in the handle it keeps the chain / rope / whatever in the centre so the waterer hangs lopsided.

See if you have this kind you can drill in the center of the TOP loop of the handle.
