Usually the people who feel a quake at a distance from the epicenter are on saturated ground (hallerlake is close to a lake and close to the water table) so I'm not surprised. It's really a long way away, and West Coast quakes don't propagate over long distances the way the Virginia one did because we don't have the kind of coherant geology they have back there.

(Have you ever read John McPhee's Assembling California? Great look at why the west coast does not ring like a bell, among other things).

another really interesting read was "The Last Days of the Late Great State of California" .. novel by Curt Gentry

having survived a number of earthquakes while sojourning in California, a few here too, and even one on Maui (epicenter just off the Big Island coast) --- I would say that .. no, the West Coast does not ring like a bell, it GRUMBLES

I'd rather go through an earthquake, though, than a tornado ... survived one of those in Oklahoma and it was NOT fun, though since we were the only brick house on the block, we had only water damage from the torrential rain, which at one point must have been more than three feet deep, as it was seeping under our front and back doors ...

I would rather be in a earthquake than a tornado also.

Yes, but would YOU want to then put your live bird in the hands of the worker you'd ticked off? I'd be afraid he'd drop kick the box! I've had one bird sent to me arrive dead and another with a dislocated hip. If these postal workers will use guns on people, what will they do to a box of birds?

See I have a little different outlook rather than fear what they may do I like to make them wonder how far I may go. They may know postal but I know CRAZY.

That's what I need then, a crazy man carrying my birds, cracking his knuckles, rubbing his prison tattoo and muttering, "These birds better make it where they're going tomorrow or the voices will make me do things to you...."

That's funny because eventhough I have never been there .... I have been known to tell people in a rather harsh voice with a bit of a twisted look on my face. "I got no problem goin BACK to prison". Did that with DD's most recent bf upon first meeting him. He has been a perfect gentleman since. I wonder why?

If anyone can get them from the fair to near me, I'll put them under our broody...

They'll be about 2.5 weeks old when the fair is over- might be a bit old to graft them on another hen but maybe not. Depends on the hen.

I would take them. Where/when would they need to be picked up?

The little girl who "borrowed" Adam was such a doll. Yesterday they ddid a "best dressed bird"....how hilarious. We had cheer leaders and princesses, Colonel Sanders, and a fisherman. It was adorable.

Well Alisha tied with another little girl and got Reserve Champion for Round Robin. How crazy is that? She just did fantastic.

I am so proud of her.

Thank you everyone for all the words of encouragement. I will make sure that Alisha is aware of all of them. I don't have time this morning to read all through the forum (maybe tonight). Last day of fair. Gotta go get a shower. Thank you all. Talk atcha later.

We take the birds home Sun Sep 25 in the evening. If you know anyone close to you with birds at the fair, that would be ideal as they could take them then. I can let her keep the little Polish chick so she isn't upset. (I put one in for the spectators to enjoy.) If not, I'll just take them all home and let her raise them outside. I'm trying not to do brooders in the house right now. Then, if you're ever in the Spanaway area, you can contact me. I have several other pet quality araucana chicks free-ranging with their moms right now. They can be determined broodies. You can email me at [email protected]
