and most times they STAY adorable ... I never realized chickens had such personality

don't bother to try to catch up, just jump in, most times the crucial postings get quoted and answered several times ... and our subjects can range far afield now and then

If it's not tinted with blue/green, and is more off-white pale, I'd go with the Orps I have 6 total that are currently laying and they vary from almost white they are so pale to light brown.

Anyone in the Seattle area about to sell some laying hens? I'm looking to get 3-4. I prefer the good laying but friendly breeds (australorp, barred rock, sex links, etc) but I'll consider anything. Ours were killed so we need to get new ones after I reinforced their area. I'm up in the Edmonds area.

thanks

You lasted longer than I did; I tried to move to California when I was twenty-four and lasted about three weeks.

It might work. Unfortunately tomatoes need heat to ripen. I have gobs off green tomatoes this year. I know that I planted some of the earliest ripening varieties, and still got skunked. I do have some pumpkins that might be edible this year, and zucchini. But cabbage is a bust because of the slugs and worms. A t least my girls will be happy with what we don't eat from the garden.

I gave the girls a cabbage today. I cut it into quarters, and it might be okay for us to eat.

I have some Wyandottes that I could sell you. They laid very well during the summer, but right now it seems like the whole crew is on strike. Out of 17 hens I am only getting 2 or 3 eggs a day. It could that I need to add a little bit more light for them. I also am fairly sure that some of the Light Sussex girls are still a bit young to be laying.
