You're getting more baby Welsh Harlequins or you're hatching some of the offspring from the 4 you already have? How are you enjoying your Welsh Harlequins so far? Will you be selling any hatching eggs in the spring? I don't have any business asking since I'm already 3X over my legal chicken limit but that doesn't stop me from liking the idea of having a couple.

Looking for any one in the Puget Sound area that has an Alpine Buck that my cousin can breed with her Doe.And also she is looking for a Suffolk(sp?) ewe for sale, she doesn't want to pay over $100.00 for it.Thank you!

What if your coop is 51 feet???????????

The inspector guy said it included the run. The regulations say "building they are housed in" (converted shed) the run is a dog run.

Anyway, here is what I have.

I have 16 Dark Cornish pullets, born on Memorial Day from McMurry hatchery and one 2.5 month old EE from Illia that will lay blue eggs. I am getting 9-12 eggs a day.

I was planning on being at the show, I was not planning on bringing my chickens.

I guess taking the bus is no longer an option.

I don't know, $15 a piece? I cannot tell which are laying and which are not, other than that the EE is not laying yet. (no blue eggs)

I would guess these are good stock because from the time they were day old chicks, I have not lost one (other than giving them to the people that I shared the order with).

Just to be fair to the neighbors, I would have ripped the run out with my bare teeth, and built a new one off the other side.

made it back okay from Canada ... got a quick warm front through so the roads weren't icy ... chickens did fine with DS tending them, though the run got blown around a bit; DH re-rigged the tarp ... and I need to add a couple of supports to keep the fencing from buckling

also have a couple of recycle bins to dump, they're full of water from the tarp .... and I'll need to scoop the coop, didn't want to ask DS to do that ...

I'm tired though, I need a couple of days to rest up after vacation .... dealing with crazy Black Friday shoppers on the roads ...

I'm planning on Chehalis ... hope to see many of you there ... DH may come, or not (if it's decent weather he needs to get his flight review done) ....

glad to hear that most are on the mend ...

Can you rearrange the run?

The run is a five foot chain link fence with 6" wide cement (I have no idea how deep) under the whole thing. It also has 1/4" hardware cloth on the bottom three feet. I put up 9' pvc pipe (5'chainlink and 4' plastic chicken wire) and covered it.

Please excuse the dirty yard and wheelbarrow.

From slightly to the right of the window to her house is 51'. That is her garage to the right. To make the run stay >50' from her house, it would leave about enough room to get through the door to the run and that is about it.

Mia, why not build a gate at the front of the "alley" on the left, between the shed & building on the left ?
Then cut a new coop door in that side, and board up the other side facing HER ..
So your chickens will be to the left of the shed, not the right.
Leave the dog run empty, & board up the coop door to prove the chickens are not allowed in the dog run.

Well, as soon as the weather gets warmer and the 2 Harley ladies start laying, I shall put a dozen or so in the incubator. I'm getting more babies from Holderreads Waterfowl Farm in April (just so I have some genetic diversity).

I ADORE this breed! We breed the Muscovies because we have a good market for them; so I'm hoping to make a market for the Harleys. The Harleys are fairly quiet, a bit shy, VERY good at foraging, and simply gorgeous. They are also one of the best egg layers, outlaying most chicken breeds. I've also heard they make a fine table bird; not quite as rich as a Muscovy.

So, I'll keep everyone posted, and I don't mind sharing eggs at all

OK, I'll admit that there are, in fact, smarter chickens, not just dumb and dumber: I just went out in the dark and unfastened the wind-guard from the Hamburg's perch by touch, only to find Maggie, who has yet to have her ankles sprayed to get rid of scaley leg mites, was perched at the other end of the perch. So I put things back together (a less-than-fun job involving clamps that it takes both hands to open) and went to the other side of the run, only to find her securely back at her preferred position on the other side.

Both of the others have had their ankles sprayed (with Trader Joe's olive oil pan spray, which is under three bucks and nonvolatile) and are healing- Suzzy was fully sprayed when I caught them two (three? four?) weeks ago, Terre needed re-treated but is the tamest of all my chickens and I sprayed her while she was eating without having to recapture her. I've been trying to sneak up on Maggie for two weeks, and finally just gave up and decided to use WD-40 because it has the straw-aimer-thingy, and to do it after they'd perched for the night.

To really appreciate why I didn't just leave the board down and try to out smart her by going back and forth until she slipped up: I have to go through the orchard gate into the pasture to get to her preferred and habitual end of the perch, and the path is... not fun in the dark.

So:

Are there any leg mite cures which can be put in food? Any other ideas? I may just wait until I finish the new fun and coop and catch her on the way through, although I'm not thrilled with the idea of putting her with the Hamburg cockerel and the Austrolorp hen, both of whom are clean, until I get her cleaned up.

I went out to feed the birds, bunnies, ducks, goose and goats.

They were all hungry. Agatha (goat) made a break for it as soon as I opened the gate, but came back when she saw Danica eating her share of sweet feed!

It gave me a chance to feel her up (ok, I know it sounds weird, but I'm trying to tell if she's preggers). Now, this is my first year with breeding goats, (bred Arabians and Thoroughbred horses for many years though) so I'm not really very sure of myself yet. BUT, she sure feels like she's got "something" in her belly! It's her first freshening so although I'd like twins, one would be fine.

Danica is still a little young - but I'm thinking that maybe by mid/late January she will be big enough. If not, I don't mind waiting. Actually I do, I'm soooo impatient

The BLR Wyandotte/Polish cross experiment is turning out rather well. Most Glorious Spousal Unit thinks they are stupid looking, but I think they are gorgeous, and I'm the one that counts, right? They are a bit bigger than the Polish, prettily coloured, and with a small "Mohawk". I'm hoping to get a decent sized egg from them (the Polish I have, lay a good sized egg for their body size).

I just wish someone would lay an egg, or lots of eggs, other than the anonymous EE - wish I knew who she is, I'd give her a very special treat for giving me that lovely turquoise egg each day!

Happy days all my BYC buddies. Looking forward to meeting many of you this weekend.
