Tri-Cities.

I've TRIed to get out of here for greener pastures, but I'm stuck here for a good long while. It's nice, but I really miss the woods.

Oh wow, I just looked up Outlook, WA on Google, and you are out in the middle of nowhere! No wonder you aren't too worried about prices.

Hubby and I, and another friend, we sell Scovies and get really good prices, especially around this time of the year. I think there must be a number of Asian holidays, because we sold out our drakes in less than a week. The ad on Craigs List was taken down the same day I put it up! And, there was so much demand, they even bought some ducks, which being smaller aren't very much prized.

Also of interest, the more red caruncles round the eyes and on the face, the more they will pay. I'm not sure why, perhaps it's because "red" in China is good luck! In any event, we are going to try doubling our hatching next year, since we did so well this year.

These are some of mine (do you have a site? I'd love to see yours)

Are you serious?? OMG! I really love my scovies, and I thought there would be a nice market here, especially given all the nice pasture and plenty of bugs!! But, they are just not moving here, I think in part because I haven't done too much marketing, I don't have a website, but I think I'm going to work on one this month. I just have sooo many, I let them hatch out as much as they wanted, bad mistake. So, at this point, I would like to down size this winter re evaluate and work out a plan to market and maybe sell hatching eggs too. I will send you a pm with some of my kids. That is good that you have been so successful! I'm just starting out so I kind of made some newbie mistakes.

It's hard when you're far from a city, or don't have access to specialty markets (like a large Asian population, etc). However, muscovy is DELICIOUS- good roasted, panfried, in sausage, in a confit,... and leftovers make an excellent pot pie.

Mmmmm... Duck.

Anyone with scovies with an extra blue, black, or chocolate duck with little or no white (and white only located on wing) I am looking for one more girl to add. Would prefer black.

Gee... I just might have one....or two.....or three.....LOL

Oooh la la! You have some with minimal white (with white only on the wing fronts/bows)?? If you have a black or chocolate or blue (preferably black) that meets this,.. lets talk

Joining is a good way to support the club

rather than pay a consignment fee/percentage to an auction where they really cram (and I do mean CRAM) the birds together. Seeing yardbirds is part of why I haven't taken birds to auction. I'd feed them to my dogs first (dead, of course).

OH I didn't mean that I didn't want to, it's just so late in the game, my membership info probably wouldn't even get there, before I did, that's all??

The club likes to take money. If you email them and say, "I want to join your club and become involved. Might it be possible to join the club and purchase a sale cage at the show this weekend? I can pay prior to bringing my birds into the hall." If they have space, I bet they will allow it.

Well, if you are ever up this way, let me know - always got wine to share
big_smile.png

The deboning stuff, well, Jacques Pepin shows how in a 10 minute video on You-Tube (and no waste!)

Yeah, second glass of wine waits until AFTER knife work!

I'm spending Saturday night with Jbear et. al and we are planning to enjoy a glass of wine- in fact at the show or banquet I do believe there will be a wine raffle/auction. It was very successful at a previous show and so much fun. I'm trying to decide what to bring wine wise....

Thanks for the link! I will try it out next time I butcher, which is usually a couple of times a month.

On thanksgiving we enjoyed some K Vinters Syrah that was quite nice.

Well, I've advertised on CL down there, a few times and have never gotten a call? I have however had some people from Goldendale come and get two hens and oh yea, some guy from Moxee called me once.... When I think of the great lengths I have gone to get mine, it's just surprises me, that they aren't moving better here?? I will have to try that, after all it is supposed to be a delicacy!!
