RonB is in Woodinville. Haven't heard from him, but I do know he has generators as he offered to loan me a small one for the incubators, but couldn't get out to him before the nasty weather hit.

I would think Greg is without power too. Most of Duvall is out, especially east. I heard Lake Margaret is out, and he lives there.

Now just to learn how to take care of them at that point.- (butchering) - The DW won't be able to do it, so I will have to learn the score from start to finish.

Watch some of the video's on YouTube. That's how we learned. We don't process regularly, but have done one batch of culls ourselves, and learned how by watching the video's there. We skinned them, as it was easier and we don't have a plucker. This is the one we watched:

Spend some time on the meat birds forum on here too...there is a really great thread that shows pics from start to finish. I have to run or I'd find it for you...

I have both skinned and plucked, and honestly, it takes me about the same amount of time, and I don't have a plucker either. Just scald them well and the feathers come out in handfulls (except the tail feathers and primary wing feathers, those come out one or two at a time). Depending on how you plan to cook them would determine whether you'd skin or pluck. If I'm going to throw it in the crockpot, I just skin them... :) Once you've tasted a home grown dual purpose bird, you will never buy store bought chicken again!

Gotta have the skin on for barbie!
Too crunchy & good !
We just do granulated garlic, a bit of salt & fresh ground pepper & grill.........oh so crunchy & moist inside.
My dual purpose breeds (like the java, Buckeyes & Marans are culled at an older age so are tougher & used for stewers & soups.
I just label the bag as what it is..ameaty or a stewer.
Scald several minutes at 160 and feathers fall right out, pull any straglers & then gut & toss in a cool bath, and bag before rigor sets in (or they won't fit in a 1 gal bag).
Helps to have at least 2 people and do as many as possible in 1 day.
DH & I usually start early & do about 15 then retire to the showers.
Next day we do 15 more, or until done.

Love the crunchy skin on the barbQ, sounds so yummy, making me hungry. Thanks for the insights and tips, I will keep them recorded. Thanks CL!

So, I kept hearing noises but never thought it was trees coming down. We have lost one section of fence (thank goodness only one little bit, but the electric wire is now out) and the Birch JUST missed the house. Several others broke off halfway, but are not too near the house. Must have been the snow, which started to thaw, then more icy rain and they just couldn't handle it. Oh well, I never did like those horrid maple things. Sorry about the Birch though - it was pretty.

Raining right now. Going out in a few to feed and collect eggs.
Just finished the prep for the persimmons wine - CL you should smell it, can't wait til it's done
