Hey Stumpfarmer did ya get the message that I called to check on ya last eve? CL gave me yer sisters #. Said it was the only one she had.

Nope, sorry; she called this morning, too, to see if I had power on but she was in the middle of cooking pancakes.

I called hallerlake Friday morning (I think: the days got confused, there, with the dark and the cold) but my cell was dying, and by the time we got a plug-in phone I was too tired to talk. We were melting ice to get water for the dogs, cats, chickens, and sheep, and less clean source snow for flushing toilets. Since my husband isn't supposed to do much lifting, I did most of the collection of the frozen water, plus feeding the chooks and keeping the sheep company and cooking in the dark, ugh.

My father's 15 foot tall & 15 foot wide Magnolia tree was dropped to the soil...still held it's 2" buds, unopened and after Dad brushed as much ice off, slowly the magnolia is reaching back up.
I cannot tell you how beautiful this magnolia is~~~~~~~~I MUST HAVE STARTS of this tree.
Dad hates it as it is so dense & gatheres so much snow It breaks off & creates problems.....it is a huge gorgeous thing!
That and he gave me 8 new red leaf maple starts..these are TALL red leaf maples, topping at about 12 feet.
Laced leaf,
AND he gave me another 2 Hazelnut trees, barerooted, one is BIG on top the tree is 12" the other is but a twig~
I also have 6 Curly Willow starts 1 year old and about 6 foot tall, free to good homes.

hey hey hey hey

we have POWER !!!!!@!!!!!!!!!! :weee :ya :clap :frow :yiipchick

we shut off most of the big-electric-consuming stuff after the power went off, so we won't fire up our water heater nor heat pump until tomorrow when the lines all settle down ... but the fridge and the freezers are back humming ... have not opened them in four, or is it five? days so no way to tell if all is ok, but house was down in the low 50s, high 40s, so probably all is fine

laptop is on charge -- wifi is not working but the direct line IS !!! so I am on the big tower while the laptop charges

am assuming we will soon have uninterrupted water again -- we have been very good about flushing only once a day, so the septic tank pump didn't overload (lowest drain point is still 10 feet above the top of the septic holding tank, so we've never had a back-up; no sanitary facilities in the basement, lowest is five feet above ground on "main" floor)

DS has been in agony all the time, he likes to shower every morning and that hasn't been possible; meanwhile I will have a huge load of wash to do, since DH had an episode of "dire rear" and vomiting ... with no water to clean it up, good thing I had a huge stack of clean towels

DH says his cell phone is showing service at last, finally; mine is still quiet since battery ran down, DH charged his up in the car when he ran DS in to work (J&I Power Equipment is inundated with generators needing repair, so DS even went in TODAY !! to catch up on all the stuff needing servicing)

PSE told us all afternoon that according to their records, we HAD had our power restored --- big lie --- then later on they changed it back to "unable to forecast when service will be restored --- about half an hour ago I saw flashing lights out on the access road .. figured it was either power or telephone crews, or another big fir had come down across the road and it was DOT trucks warning people not to hit it ....

now i'm guessing that it was the power trucks ....

(sigh) I hope we get in touch with everyone and find all are okay, even if there were losses in the storm ... so glad to hear that some of the chicks, eggs, hens, roosters, ducks, turkeys, geese, etc ... are ok

thanks, Julia, am glad you are ok, tried to call you but our phones were out most of the time too, and when I finally got connected and dialed in, I got the recording that your number was out of service ....

By gosh, at least the wind has settled down over here, sky is clear, the air is chilly, but 39º the temp sits. At least it isn't raining.
