Thanks Chickie-

but are you saying you are going to put them outside April 1, or purchase day old chicks on April 1? I'm not sure what 'warmish' means, especially around here. It was barely 'warmish' in May last year. Regularly had lows <40 degrees. In fact, we only had one month last year that didn't drop below 40 degrees. Unbelieveable!

To answer your Q, we strive to have our meaties outside while the weather is warmish...and are doing 2 sets this year, trying for 1 starting in April, and another in July.
That is 2 batches of 50 "Bar-b-cue Specials" from Murry McMurry

Red Reiner, you already know you will get some nice Blue girls this spring....not an issue at all. Heck, we breed Minpins together, might as well breed chickens together too...lol. Your black and Splash boys are looking really nice....well, anyway they WERE before they were soaking wet yesterday....dummies dont know to get out of the rain...I guess they havent figured out that the Blue roo is now locked up with his ladies and THEY are now the only boys in the pen.

Welcome to posting on BYC!
I have BCM but they are a young flock started up from my last years birds and just starting to lay so checking for fertility. They are laying my darkest eggs yet. Should start seeing fertility in the next month. They are primarily Bev Davis lines. I do have Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Marans chicks and eggs available right now however egg laying since the snow has been spotty. They have gorgeous eggs also but not quite as dark as the BCM. They are pure Bev Davis.

Hi Everyone,

Been a member here for awhile, but never post. I lurk CONSTANTLY! Love, love, love BYC

. Anyway, in Roy which is about 45 minutes south of Seattle. I'm the proud mom of 4 beautiful human children and a school bus driver to support my chicken habit (oh yeah, and to pay all those pesky "other" bills!). Anyway, I started with Polish (smooth & frizzle) & RIR's. After much soul searching I recently sold my entire Polish flock to a gentleman in Idaho. We still breed and sell our RIR's as well as EE's and LF Light Brahma's (my new passion!). We are also starting with Black Copper Marans but are having terrible luck with shipped eggs! I'd love to find someone locally that sells quality Black Copper Maran hatching eggs or chicks. Suppose my constant BYC lurking days are over now that I have officially made a post. Love all the information and entertainment I find here and so glad to see there are so many chicken and incubator addicts in the world such as myself

yes very excited for some nice blue girls! I am just amazed at how nice that black boy looks compared to my blue. my blue looks like he is half turkey... if 4HMOM wants those splash girls I will bring them up to her when I bring sugar and krash to you, they can just hitch a ride back home with me. cant beat home delivery.
you should post some pics of the black and splash boy, 4312 and 4HMOM might like to see them

My poor chickens have been confined to 360 SF of coop and covered run for nearly 2 weeks now because they won't touch snow!

They all are handling it quite well, no squabbles that I have noticed. If I leave the run door open, they sometime dash around under the eaves and sit on the porch if there is no wind - that is rarely thecase.

I thought that they would eat much more chicken feed since they are not free ranging (snow is still nearly a foot deep in my yard), and they might be, but I'm actually going through A LOT LESS FEED since the run door has been closed - those pesky squirrels can't get in the run or coop to raid the feeders!

I should not have posted last night - I jinxed myself. As soon as I submitted my last post, I lost power! It was back on ths morning. Winds were wicked all night long, but have slowed down since it got light (not calm by any means, but not howling and threatening to take off the roof!) The rains are still heavy. I drove over the Snoqualmie, and it did not look like it is in danger of flooding, but all the little tributaries around here are over their banks.

The splash orp girls are sold. But I am starting up the incubator and will be selling 100% English orp chicks and eggs, if anyone is interested, just pm me and we will get things going. My breeding pen has a HUGE Blue roo with 4 fluffy blue pullets and 1 splash pullet. So should get mostly blue, some black and some splash. Thanks everyone.

Carol

Purchase by, and raise in a brooder until they are ready to go out, usually 4 weeks....then out they go for the final 5 to 6 weeks, meanwhile a new batch is ordered, and the same route is followed.
