Quick question... is it normal when you order chicks from a hatchery for over half of them to die?

why? did half of yours die?? I don't know, the only hatchery chicks I've gotten were from the feed store, and I only lost one Turkey poult, so jeez, I hope not!! I hope that did not happen to you!!?? that would make me very sad!!

Oh no not me thank goodness I only lost two. But I am reading this thread called They'er here ( with a lot of e's) and this lady ordered chicks from Murry Mcmurry. Originally she ordered 33 chicks and 17 died, she got her replacement shipment today and out of 51, 22 are already dead and she has only had them like 6 hours. Another lady posted that she got 44 today and lost 12 with in a few hours. And another lady lost a bunch her first batch got her second one today and lost 3. ( how sad is that. I would be bawling my eyes out.

I wonder if it's because of the time of year?? I mean, don't they do more shipments closer to March?? That is sad!! And it would be very frustrating if you kept reordering or they kept resending cause you lost some!!
