awe, i'd sooo take one of them babies....I could only have a bunny....son keeps trying to talk us into getting one... but told him he has to help care for the Chickens, before we ever decide on getting something that he could actually kill... more than likely I'd wind up having to care for the rabbit if he got one.... start small & see how it goes first I tell him... guess what, who's been the one taking care & spending time with the Chicks we have... yup u guessed it... Me.. his chicks probably have become "my" lil friends as much as they see him... *sigh*.... city boy..

Best way I have found herding chickens is have treats in a can that make noise when you shake it. Start off feeding them in your run with that noise. I use bird seed as one of my treats and they remember that noise. I have changed containers many times didn't seem to matter the container it's the noise along with the word treats. Then after they get programmed to the noise when they are free ranging call out treats, shake your container, those greedy birds follow you right into their run. LOL!

The problem with King County is that Seattle is in it. We lived in Duvall (part of King County) for 8 yrs, before buying land in unincorporated Snohomish County and building our house here.

City laws/ordinances, etc, made for Seattle, don't work for the rest of the county, especially rural areas. At one time, there was a strong push to make a new county, that had most of King County's outlying rural area's in it. Wish that had gone thru.....anyway, that's all I'll say about that. Much happier up here in Snohomish County!

Hello everyone! =) I hope you've all been enjoying the nice weather - our chicks certainly are!

Here they are at just over four weeks. They are spending the days in their outdoor coop (with a lamp) and nights still in the garage.




Most of these are spitz-crossed with something or other except the one ducking it's head.

Dog gone it!! what happened to my golden feather?? I wonder why they don't send you a pm and let you know it's expiring!! Darn it!!

Rare Feathers Farm's Platinum up and disapeared and they did not tell her until she tried to list on an auction & siad she couldn't...crap.
I sent PMs to several ppl asking about moving UP to platinum & that was 2 weeks ago (?) and no response.

That's a great idea! I will start conditioning them tomorrow!

The coop has either straw or pine shavings in it and it all gets thrown in the compost together - no smell. The brooder had shredded paper in it, and it composted super quick - within about 2 weeks it was ready for the garden (well, it rained alot too which helped quite a bit!)

If you compost your coop bedding & poop, and TURN it religiously at leat 2 X a week, the bacteria will eat it up & there is no smell, unlike the giant dog poops I have had to deal with in the past...man the lasagna smells GOOOOOOOOOD !!
