Hi itsren! Welcome back. Did your mom's move go well? My EEs beards are coming in as well, it's adorable!! They're all getting huge and sick of the coop, LOL! But VelvettFog is coming next month to build us a run!! Woohoo!!

Yay! How exciting that you'll have help to build the run. I plan to start building my little run now that the stress of moving my mom is over. She loves her new little apartment and is so happy to be back around the people she grew up with. She grew up on a 40 acre farm in Greenleaf, Idaho and then went to George Fox College (today a University) in Oregon. Many of her Greenleaf neighbors also went to George Fox. She's now living with her childhood neighbors and her college buddies. When we visited the retirement center last time it was fun to hear the residents swap their old time farm stories. She's so happy to be there. I could see the joy in her face and in her eyes. We'll miss her, but she's only a three and a half hour drive away. Moving her has been pretty hard on the kids, but I think they'll adapt.

First on my list of "to do's" before I get started on the run is to get our house put back together after last week's carpet tear out. Everything came off shelves and got bagged up to help prevent too much dust from getting mixed in with things. We got a lot of that done before we left for Oregon, but there's still quite a bit to do. Having the nearly 40-year-old carpet out of here has helped my allergy issues significantly, although I still have to wear a respirator when I'm around the chicks. I'm still holding out that we're not getting rid of the chicks! So I look a little goofy when I'm around them - not too big of a deal.

Ok So thanks to rainwolf I am on a mission ! ! ! Here is what I will be attempting to make. I already got one trampoline today and have a line on another out in Rochester (Mikey ! ??? )

Yahoo, that looks great. Yep Rochester is where I live. If you come for the bouncy thingy, stop by. I'll put on a pot of coffee and we can sit and talk. Heck, give me some heads up and I'll make a coffee cake to go with the coffee.
How did you come up with this idea? It looks great.

Well at our new house there is already a chicken run and small pen. Dang it.. it is only half on the property and the other half is on the railroad property behind us. So we have to move it before I can bring my chickens there. This is going to involve some work because compared to what I have now it is small. And I want the ducks to be able to play in the pond so they are going to have their own pen.

Oh well, building and planning are fun! I love it.

I think I have it down to taking all my speckled sussex there (total of 4)

My barred rocks (6 including Momma hen)

6 rouen ducks and 4 runner ducks.

Still haven't decided on turkeys yet. I have 3 Narangansett and 1 baby who knows what mutt.

So going to have to build a pen for the ducks inclosing the pond under the lilac trees (after I prune the bejeezeers out of them) and move the chicken pen, add to it and build a coop for it. Also I want to keep the turkey in a seperate pen so have to build that too.

This is going to be fun... Is it the first yet? lol

Imp: Thanks for explaining how to add a member page. I added a "My Coop" page today. Your explanation worked very well.
You're Welcome, glad it helped. Sometimes my IT help desk skills are rather lacking.

My birds will always go for the easy water. Would you want to sip or take a big mouth full?

Remove the easy water, tap the nipples to get a drip of water on the nipple. One bird will need to see the water drop on the nipple and see it drop. You do not want to drip to much water to cause a pool under the bucket. All you need is one bird to drink from the nipple the rest will follow. Chicks always catch on quicker then grown birds.

HTH

We added a nipple system last Thursday morning to our indoor brooder. We knew we were going to be gone for a couple of days and our babysitter probably would not take care of our 5-week-old chicks. We installed an adult-sized hanging feeder in the indoor brooder and added a bucket to the top with a hose and PVC pipe 2-nipple system. We sat out there and played with the nipples until we caught the interest of the birds and saw each one use it a little bit. But, we made the mistake of putting a small bowl of water in the coop. We watched them all day on Thursday and part of the day on Friday but they kept drinking out of the bowl. Before we left Saturday morning, we removed the bowl, showed them the nipple system again, and hoped for the best. We figured the chicks might stop drinking if the bowl was still in there. It worked well. We came home to 3 chickens who appear to be OK. The water level in the bucket has gone down, and there's not too much water on the coop floor, so we can only assume they have been drinking. The nipple system is going to be so much easier to take care of! No more daily cleaning of a water container.

Moral of the story... remove any other water containers if you are trying to teach your chicks to use a nipple system.
