To be honest - this doesn't sound good either! Mama would probably kick butt if anyone gets to close to her chicks. Pecking order goes a little nuts with broody hens around.

Maybe have your hired help give her the eggs 20 days before you're supposed to be home? That way she'd not have to wait too long - and yet you'd be home for the hatch?

Does anyone else have ideas or suggestions?

My two brown Easter Eggers - Camo & Echo are for sale. If anyone here wants them - $25 for the pair. (If they go on Craigslist I'll ask $40.)

I was supposed to sell them two weeks ago, had a Craigslist person keep calling and saying two more days! I didn't mind since I don't really want to sell them anyway

but my husband is asking why they are still in the backyard.

Anyway - one lays pink eggs, the other brown eggs. They are NOT the friendliest birds ever and I would not get them for children or pets. But they're great layers - about six per week.

They were hatched September 2011.

Camo - aka Blackbeard

Echo - aka RedBeard

Ok, call me crazy, but I just set 13 more Silkie eggs and 8 LF Faverolles, along with 7 Bantam Favs for Tamara, that I brought home from CloverLeafFarms.

That doesn't sound crazy, that sounds awesome! Please let us know how the hatch goes and post pictures of the chicks.

Congrats Dawn! I am loving the goodies I have from you. They all smell so nice and I can't wait to give these as gifts and to try out the shampoo bar.

I tried hard-boiling my eggs at 8-9 days after laying, and it worked fine. I haven't taken a chance on newer ones yet.

I have a broody Orpington! I'd love to get some dark (or blue) eggs for her to sit on...but I'm going to be gone for a month, and I'd rather be here to watch over the proceedings. I wonder if she will still be broody in a couple of months...?

Is anyone here planning to be at the PNPA show in Puyallup next Saturday? I'm thinking about going there (for the Mother Earth fair).
ME !!!! I wanna go so bad !!!!!!!!!!
