We really enjoyed and appreciated all the help with the meat birds that FlyRobin gave us today. We got 16 out of 26 of our birds, plus 4 of Robin's roos done in just about 3 hours. We are opting to let the other of our birds grow another week or two. They are still on the small side, even though they are 8 weeks old now. Here are a few pictures of DH and Robin working.





Timmy wanted to help, but got tired before we got done.





We will be processing the rest of the birds hopefully next Saturday. If any one want to come and see how to butcher, you are more than welcome to stop by this coming Saturday. Even if DH doesn't make it home I think that I will do the deed one way or another.

That doesn't seem so bad. I've been nervous about processing our own birds but that seems OK. Can I bring our one bird next week and have a little lesson and take mine home? You mean next Sat, not tomorrow right? It'll be good to let him grow another week anyway he's kinda scrawny..

Hey Totalcolour - here's a pic of two of the Anconas you hatched for me (the one of the left is the one your spouse named "Squish" - we still call him that).

Nice Ducks Christine! I'm really glad they turned out good for you. Did they all survive; 5 if I remember correctly, not to mention the ones you hatched.

I've heard Brahma roos are sweet, too. And, they are beautiful! My little (not-so-little) Brahma pullet is such a sweetheart.

She's like a happy little puppy, following me around. She's the only one who doesn't give me grief to pick up. When I hold her, she often just snuggles down in my arms and closes her eyes.

Now, if only she wasn't so much Drama...

Hopefully, if you got a Brahma roo, you'd get one with a sense of balance.

Hahaha! Knowing my luck I'll get the most ill-mannered one alive! I bought 3 feed store chicks about 3wks ago (2 cochins and 1 welsummer) and I am thinking already that the Welsummer may be a Mr. Ugh, the 3 times I have gotten a group I have picked 2 roosters. I re-homed 1 just to get 2 more!! Hopefully I don't have a 5th!

Man I wish I lived closer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I REALLY need to learn how to do this. I've watched a lot of videos, but I'm more a hands-on learner!

Chickie Lady, I misread your post, I thought it said "Jersey Giant,". I went over the photos with a fine tooth comb - wondering why I just kept seeing a big tomato instead of a chicken. LOL.
