Quote: For some reason it always cracks me up when people get bent out of shape over a little poo, especially big macho men. My DH gets irked when the poo is on his nearly brand new concrete patio. It's okay apparently for the dogs to poo on the concrete but not the chickens. It doesn't help that my girls have to cross the patio to get to the yard. As for the dogs, I think that he is so grateful that the poo isn't in the house, that anywhere else is just fine.
This just reminded me that I need to go and pick up more than a few piles.![]()
Oh and for those interested, my mole is starting to react to the herb and it's working! Kinda tender right now but I know that soon I will have one less mole on me! Pretty cool![]()
It is the brand of food that I most often feed my chickens. I haven't had any problems with it. I believe that it is milled right here in Tacoma.Do any of you have any info/opinion on Excel Feeds? Anyone feed any of their products?
I think it's normal behavior. I think they are picking on her because she is the smallest. The birds in my flock that are at the bottom of the pecking order just wait until the rest of the birds are full and leave the feeder, then they go and eat.Hi Jess,
The feeder is a 12 pound hanging feeder and they are also given fresh grass, dandelion greens, plus a few handfuls of BOSS, corn, or bird food in the afternoon. Slim doesn't seem to be getting smaller but she looks smaller in comparison to the others. As if she has stopped growing at the same rate.
I have a 3 gallon bucket with nipples in the coop, a gerbil waterer in the run (they love it for some reason) and there is usually a shallow 'pool' that they prefer to drink out of. The dirtier the better. lol
I make sure that food is distributed around the run - I probably put too much out - to make sure everybody can find food and eat it in peace. The run is 6' x 10', again I didn't want the size of the run to stress the chickens.
So I am still interested in finding out if this is normal behavior or signs that something is not right. If I can fix it I definitely want to do that.
I'm in Sequim, the lavender capital of the country. What we don't advertise is that we are also the dandelion capital of the country.I once mistook a field of dandelions for a field of giant alliums. lol![]()
Quote: We have bunnies (quite nice ones this batch - gentler than some of our other litters) - but the littler we have right now is all brothers and sisters, so not a breeding pair, and we only have one male. We don't breed during the "hot" months because of the stress on them, so no more litters until October.
We had the flourescent pink kind, very pretty, and stung like the Dickens...and they we were all saved by Bactine...."No Sting-No Stain"...remember ?I believe that blue Kote is the same thing as mecuricome for the most part. Mecuricome is an old time cure all antibiotic and fungicide. It used to contain mercury in the formula, that has since been removed from the ingredients.
My dad said that it was used to treat ringworm. For the most part all I can remember it being used on was small cuts, and scrapes. The downside was that it stained everything purple. The bottles of Mecuricome were always fairly small. The lid of the bottle had a glass wand attached to it. So all you needed was to touch the wand to the wound, and that was enough.
Blue Kote reminds me of Mecuricome. It has essentially the same use. I was able to buy mecuricome from the Safeway pharmacy not that long ago. It has become very expensive, as compared to less than 20 years ago. I bought a bottle when my kids were little, and it was about 1.50 now it is nearly 17.00.
CL what about the birds that are on medicated feed they shouldnt be used should they?Make sure you with hold feed from all you are going to process, for at least 8 hrs or you end up with full crops & poo squirts...yucky.
I also use a hemostat to pull the windpipe out, and a needle nose pliers to pinch off the bile duct at the liver, and then cut it off, so bile does not quirt all over.......![]()
I still have this idea that someday, someday, I will stick my hand in there & something will grab it...............weird huh ?![]()
