Question to the canners out there... I heard that if you have a glass top range, you can't can on it. Is this true? I keep thinking about investing in canning equipment - but I don't want to break the glass top.

I wont use a canner on mine. I have a weck canner than the presto I havent use it yet. The weck is a boiling water canner and I LOVE IT!!

Im going to use a double burner for the pressure cooker Ive looked into it. Or you can use a camp stove which I might also try..

We haven't upgraded the stove that came with the house, so we still have electric coils, but I think the big water bath canner I have is just to heavy for it. Last year we bought me a 2 burner propane cooker for canning on. It's extremely nice to not heat (or steam) up the house as well by canning outside. I set off smoke detectors one year with steam from the canner when I was doing marathon canning. All my uncle has used for the last 20+ years is a propane stove to can everything outside, water bath and pressure canning. Everything has worked very well.

Turnaround if fair play? My Aussies eat the Orps poo & vice versa. I think I may need more chickens and then won't have to clean up the yard!

LakeBird, if your Aussies have any drug sensitivity you may want to be careful if you worm your flock with ivermectin, I've heard of dogs with MDR1 getting very sick from eating poop from horses that were wormed with ivermectin products.

Hi, can I join? I just signed up for this site and I'm having a blast reading all the forums. I'm in Lewis County, on the WET side. I've had chickens forever, since I was a child, but now I'm exploring ducks. I look forward to getting to know a few of you.

Hi LakeBird,
You are pretty close to me. I'm in Puyallup, you take 512 and I'm off the Canyon Rd exit :) I'm still new on this site, but enjoying it. And learning a lot. It looks like a lot of people get together to visit and learn more about chickens, that is so cool. I used to own a house in University Place, it's a beautiful area. Then we needed a bigger house, so we are in Puyallup now and loving it. This is our first time with chickens, ours are two weeks old now. They sure do have their own little personalities, so cute.
I'm new here too. I got my first chickens in April. Have learned about chicken math since then

I struggle just keeping up with the conversation on this board. So if I don't answer, it's not because I am ignoring you, but because I'm old and a slow reader

Thank you for the info. I haven't even considered worming the flock. Is worming necessary?
