Just did some research. It looks like frogs eat live bugs. I don't have any live bugs. So, we'll see how it like dried meal worms. If it doesn't eat them, we'll let it go sooner, rather than later today.

Yes, the kitchen is fully stocked - pots, pans, mixing bowls, dishes, glasses, coffee maker, tea pot, silverware, etc. The only kitchen appliance that I bring to a WorldMark resort is my microwave popcorn popper (a special bowl that can pop in the microwave).
They really need to add a slow cooker. I always bring mine.

Oh, and ziploc bags.

I couldn't bring myself to move to the suburbs. We have a lovely five-acre plot in Snohomish where no one cares about the noise and we can have as many chickens as we want. I also have the freedom to control the rat population with firearms.

Hey All,

I missed you! School starts next week for the kiddos (both in middle school now), so I should have more time to spend here. I have had one BUSY summer!

Just got back from a long weekend of wine-tasting in Walla Walla with friends. On Friday I walked with a friend just looking at all the cool old houses and parks and such. So many homes had vegetable gardens in the strip between the sidewalk and street! I was envious of all the ripe tomatoes and zucchini, wondering if mine will ripen before fall. We walked for about 6 hours in 100 degree heat. We went for a late lunch and I had the waitress fill my water bottle, but the trout tacos came, and I forgot about the water. That evening we walked back to town with when more friends arrived. I was feeling off, everything had a surreal feeling to it, so I hardly touched my wine or food. Got up the next morning so dehydrated and dizzy that I passed out while trying to get water from the bathroom tap. I fell hard on the marble floor. I cut myself from my shoulder to bum on a towel rack. Thankfully my head landed in a cardboard magazine holder and did not hit the floor. One side of me is all black and blue, and I feel like I have been in a car accident! Years ago when I lived in California, I fainted several times when I'd get up in the morning - first when I hit puberty and in college usually after a long day spent cycling or cross country skiing. I seem to lack a sense of thirst, so I usually set myself a schedule to keep hydrated, but I completely forgot while I was away. I drank a bunch of electrolytes and other than being really sore, I think I am fine. It may be that other thing too, at the opposite end of puberty!

My hens are still laying like mad! The dogs found another nest in the woods full of eggs. Blue egg-layers seem to hide the most eggs. I am hoping to get rid of some roosters by fall. I still have the 3 beautiful bantam cochins. I made friends with the garden hose when I need to go near Cinnamon S--- Head, and he is a good boy now. He runs to the back of the run whe he sees any human approach, no more garden hose needed. The other boys will eat from my hands. I still have the 4 chicks that belong to DD's friend, only now 3 of them are crowing. That mkes it 10 roosters and 23 hens! It is much too noisy here! At least the eggs are yummy - I have been mixing my scrambles with Walla Walla onions and the Washington cheese that comes in a can (and I have to admit, as wrong as it sounds, canned cheese tastes good! much better than the squirty stuff in a tube we'd eat during camping trips in the 70's)
MUST BE COUGAR GOLD OR VIKING, ETC!! IT IS SOOOOO ADDICTING! MY HUBBY'S UNCLE GIVES US A CAN EVERY CHRISTMAS. WORKS WONDERFUL IN FRIED POTATOES OR MAC N' CHEESE TOO!

The city doesn't have any jurisdiction over what happens on the reservation. Believe me, I wish I were in the country. I hate feeling like I walk on eggshells trying to keep my animals quiet. We live in a neighborhood where blocks of land running diagonally through our neighborhood are reservation. They can set off fireworks all year long if they want to. Five houses down one way is tribal land, a few houses the other way is more tribal land. They live by a different set of rules. We get punished (by losing our animals) if our animals respond to their fireworks and/or animal noises. It is very, very frustrating. And, there's nothing we can do about it. If anyone complains at all about our animals, we will be held to city ordinances.
OOOOOHHH, YOU'RE NEAR A RESERVATION! NO WONDER FIREWORKS GO OFF SO MUCH THERE! THAT IS JUST SO TERRIBLE YOU HAVE TO LIVE WORRIED ABOUT WHAT NEIGHBORS MIGHT SAY. THERE ARE THOSE WHO LIVE TO MAKE TROUBLE FOR EVERYONE. I COULD NOT LIVE WITHOUT A DOG! IT'S DISTURBING THAT PEOPLE ARE SO IGNORANT ABOUT ANIMAL BEHAVIOR AND HAVE NO COMPASSION IN REGARDS TO THEM!

Sounds like you had a good weekend in Walla Walla. We stopped in Sunnyside on our way to Yellowstone. I was jealous how well the produce grew over there, too. Want to know what else there was to be very envious of? They have an irrigation ditch that runs through the city. Their properties connect to that ditch and they can water all they want for $90/year! Unbelievable. They live on the hot side of the state and the residential grass and plants were so much greener than here. With the heat, everything was ripening so beautifully, too.
MAN! I LIVE TO THE SE OF SUNNYSIDE BY ABOUT 45MIN - 1HR AND MY IRRIGATION BILL WAS ~$350 FOR THE YEAR! HMMMM....

My chocolate Eng Orps were 8-9 weeks. I'm guess these guys are around 4 months old. Beautiful little ones :)
I AM SOOOOOOOOOO IN LOVE!!! WHAT FANTASTIC MARKINGS!!

We caught a frog. The kids want to watch it for a while before we release it. I have water and a huge pile of grass in the container. Any ideas on how else to feed/keep it safe until we release it?
MEALWORMS MAYBE???

HAS ANYONE EVER BOUGHT A CHICKEN AT A FAIR AUCTION? I AM OPEN TO IT IF I SEE SOME I GET EXCITED ABOUT. I KNOW YOU NEED TO QUARANTINE THEM, BUT IS THERE ANY ADVISE ONE MIGHT HAVE AS TO WHAT I SHOULD WATCH OUT FOR???

The more I hear about auctions, the more I will forever stay away from them. There's virtually no reason for people to auction away pullets (they'll lay eggs, why get rid of them?!) unless there is something wrong with them. I could see getting a rooster there, or simply going there to get some cheap meat birds to bring home and process, but I wouldn't add to my own flock that way. Just my opinion.

They really need to add a slow cooker. I always bring mine.

Oh, and ziploc bags.

A slow cooker. That's a good idea. Cook all day while you're out and about. We usually get back late, and then make a late meal with tired/crabby kids. I'll try to remember that one next time we go.

Have you ever stayed in Gleneden (OR)? Just curious what it was like. We got a special needs unit over spring break this year. I'm going to go pick up my mom from the retirement center and the kids and I will spend a week with her. We're very excited to see her. We usually stay in Seaside (and, actually, currently have both Seaside and Gleneden booked at the same time - I need to cancel the Seaside reservation), but I couldn't get a special needs unit in Seaside. I was a little bummed. I hope Gleneden is nice.

My experience with frogs: one hid in a hiking boot that I left outside due to stepping on dog poo. When I started to put it on the next day, the frog leapt out and scared the daylights out of me. I don't feel sorry for Frogger (video game) anymore when he gets hit by a car.
