On the fence about if I want roos. With the running around the yard trying to get pictures of these new rescued chickens as they aren't human friendly as of yet they are really looking like 2 roos someone probably dumped on us. My hens are making alot more noise today, being very vocal. Only clucking like a hen out of the darkest one, think they are too nervous around our hens to crow this morning, I was listening for it. The one with markings seems to be less spooked. I like him. I will put up signs in the neighborhood but have a feeling they were dumped.

Any idea's -- This Silkie out of our bunch is the largest so far - We're taking a wild guess that Future Roo - tends to brawl with a certain Buff Silkie, that isnt quit as large, but close. Being all the Fluffy Stuff, is there a way to possibly tell Roo's on Silkies - the Silkies are now: 6 weeks of age.

So I went out to scoop the morning's poop.  If I scoop it early in the morning, before they start rearranging their coop, all I have to scoop is 3 neat little piles.  I discovered meal worms all over the coop mixed into the bedding.  Then, I got to looking around.  There are meal worms in the water bucket.  Meal worms on the roof.  Meal worms all over the ground around the coop.    Half the brand new bag is gone.

I just had a discussion with my daughter.  She claims she didn't do it.  She's blaming it on friends who were over last evening.  Sigh!  If only meal worms weren't so expensive.  Now I get to try and rescue dried worms out of the water and see if the birds will still eat them.

I think I would send their parents a bill it may not get payed but at least they would know their children are wasting our people's hard earn money. I have a 17 year old daughter I would very upset to learn something like this and would take care of it. Just my thoughts.

Wow! 400+ posts to catch up on, but I did it! Happy belated birthday to CR. We had a great time in Cle Elum at the family cabin. My DH thought it was a little odd that we brought chickens with us on our vacation when most people bring dogs, but then the neighbor showed up with his goat! We drove to Yakima on Friday to meet LovinChickiePoos to give her one of my Silkie cockerels. I still have Louie and I think I will try to integrate him in with the chicks since they are almost the same size! I swear my chicks DOUBLED in size while I was gone! If he doesn't do well with the chicks I may take JB up on her offer to take him back. It would be so much easier to give everyone their own space if we were in our own house. I am so thankful though to have wonderful In-Laws/Landlords who have welcomed my chicken obsession with mostly open arms! I wasn't able to meet up with Rare Feathers Farm to pick up the Cochins I want, but since I still have Louie I need a little more time before I can bring any more birds in. I hope we can make it up her way in a couple weeks, as long as the flock integration goes well. Any recommendations for putting a silkie with LF chicks? They are both about the same size. The chicks are a little smaller. Well time to get back to fencing off separate runs for everyone.

I have found that since I stared to use the emoticons more that, I have not had nearly as many problems with misunderstandings. I think that Kim is very correct about the use emoticons to express emotional tone to our posts.

I personally rarely take offence at others posts. I haven't met many members of this thread that truly try to be offensive on purpose. I have know a few that don't season their thoughts with salt. But having gotten to know them better, I still think that we have a wonderful family here. We all have much to give and share.

I know that for me, this is one of the only places in my life that I feel free to be myself. I have found that over the years, that I tend to offend most people sooner or later. If someone was to truly know me, then they will know that I would rather die than hurt another person intentionally.

I completely understand about having difficulties. I find that as my pain levels rise, that it is much more difficult to communicate nicely. So for me sometimes I find that it's better for me to take a break. I still need everyone here though, and that includes all the new people too. This is a very fluid group of friends. It's wonderful to hear from those that have been around for years, but it's great to get to know new people.

There will always be people that simply rub us the wrong way at times. It can be hard to pass somethings by at times. For me I would rather assume another person doesn't have evil intentions towards me. I have found that by choosing to not be offended by much, that I am a much happier person. I do know that if a person looks to be offend, that they will always be offended. Offence is the only thing that can be found every time a person looks for it.

I often don't post when I am not certain about how to respond. I find that it can be hard sometimes to know what to say at times. Still I truly love this group of people.

For new ones it helps the rest of us to get to know you when you post. By sharing the bits and pieces of our daily lives, we get to really know each other. I know that it can be hard at times to keep up with the thread. Still I have found that sometimes a person simply has to take a leap of faith and jump in to the deep end with the rest of the group.

This is great advice Justbugged! I'm going to have to remember this for every day living. Like you said, it's easy to find offense in things if that's what your lookin for.

Guess what?! In less than 3 weeks of my chickens barely starting to lay eggs, we've gone from 0 to 7 eggs a day!!! Yup, 7 eggs today!

Jess, your kids are adorable!! Looks like you had a great weekend. We spent the weekend at the beach too, it's always fun to go on vacation, but it's equally as nice to come home.

I'm really glad all your girls were safe and sound in their coop! I totally would've sent my DH out to check the chickens too if I would've left the coop open all night. Very happy all was well!

OK as for the emoticons ........ Well see I have a little secret stash that is NOT from BYC and sadly I have no idea how to share them.

About the getting back to the way it was. I am referring to people being able to voice opinions with out others feeling it rude etc. I don't feel that I or any others have said so-n-so's way is wrong or that somebodies birds are junk. It is those kind of things that seem to be getting misconstrued and causing a lot of trouble here.
And as for why am I stealing chickens? Well this is a very good point of (don't take this harsh) take a few minutes to get to know others. The story is in text in my profile if anyone cares to get to know a little bit about me. My favorite place to shop is midnight chicken supply. Down at the corner of grab em and run!!!!

Personality is how it worked put in our last bunch -- the main Brawlers as chicks & I deemed as future Roo's - did so in fact wind up being Roo's -- the girls squabbled here & there too -- but the Roo's I did notice tend to fight more so with other possible Roo's & I was right in judgement, before they really started showing signs of Roo.... Just curious if for the Silkies there was a way besides personality. I know "size" can be a good inclination since they tend to get large lil faster... but then again some females can be just as big too.

And 5/7 ratio - I'm sorry - we had pretty decent odds out of our older chickens.... RiR- Roo & Hen -- D'Uccle- 2 Roo & Hen -- Frizzle- 1 Frizzle Roo, Smooth Feather Roo & 2 Hens.. our Barred Rocks are still questionable - 1 looks Rooish, but hasnt shown signs of crowing or brawling... so guessing hen... most all ended up hens....

Out of our new bunch -- there may be a couple Roo's least in Silkie department - not sure on the 3 Frizzles... as those 2 set were Str8 Run... rest were listed as Pullets... course u still have that slight chance of a male in there.. but least so far, we've had pretty good odds

Yep, they've spent the morning cleaning it up. I doubt they'll eat much feed today. They're on a high protein diet today! LOL!
