Quote: My grandmother never liked me, after the Seafair episode. She decided that little girls were simply to unpleasant. I know that I wasn't fun to be around when I was in that much pain. Still I was only 4 at the time. I just wish that one of the adults would have at least tried aspirin. Of course this all happened before Tylenol was sold. I would be much more inclined to use something like advil, or real aspirin to treat these kinds of leg pains. If I recall I tried Tylenol after it came out, and it wasn't very effective for these types of leg pains.

Vents of a laying hen are much wider, more oval in shape, 'open', and moist. A non-laying bird will have a vent that almost looks puckered. It will not be moist, nor open. I tried to find some graphics on the net that would show you good examples, but I did not find one. Once you see a laying vent, and a non-laying vent -- you'll know. Its really easy once you understand how much more open, and moist a laying vent is compared to non.

My legs used to hurt real bad as a little girl. Just after I turned 4 my grandmother , and great aunt took me to the Seafair Parade. The only thing that I clearly remember of it was how bad my leg hurt. I still don't want to go to the parade again. This leg pain happen off and on for a number of years. I am not sure when it was that I realized that one aspirin could have stopped my pain with in 20 minutes. This may explain why I tend to be willing to take meds for pain these days.

Your story of the one pair of pants, reminded me of the summer I was 10. My parents figured out how to go on vacation, for no more cost than staying would have cost. They took us back country hiking in the Olympics. I managed to forget to pack socks. I due to some stories that I had been told wore a pair of rubber much boots. I was miserable. I am now proud that I have been on that hike, but I am still not happy with how badly I had been outfitted for such a trip.

It's good to know pain meds will help. If she starts crying tonight, we'll definitely give her some.

Her lack of pants that fit ended up benefiting her big time! We went to an outlet mall near my mom's place. That little girl got LOTS of new, tax-free clothing. She was quite the happy little shopper.

I remember going camping at Sol Duc Hot Springs as a child and not having a jacket or a coat. This happened TWICE! I had to wear a garbage bag the entire time I was camping and I remember being so cold, both in the day and at night. My parents were very stuck on making us kids do everything for ourselves, but not ever double-checking any of our work. We basically fended for ourselves. I don't have a single positive memory of camping with my family. I'm really glad my husband was able to convince me to give camping one more try shortly after we got married. We are big-time campers now - and I love it!

Quote: This very interesting. Because I have heard that we grow two ways. We grow it height, and we grow side to side, or outwards, but we rarely do both at the same time. Your daughter may be growing both ways at the same time. Now I am curious as to how much research has really been done on how we grow. If studies are not of a big enough group to catch all the ways that we grow, then while what's normal for most people, wouldn't be normal for a much smaller group of us.

I could liken this to the scenario of it's much more normal to suck your thumb. But there are a much smaller group of people that suck their 2 middle fingers. There are even children that suck only one finger. So there can be many variations of normal, and yet we aren't all the same.

Still it is very hard to see growth happen. One of the things that I learned from chickens is what growth looks like when it happens. I can now see the same type of movements in infants. I must admit that I do adore watching chicks grow. As they grow the chicks have such dramatic stretching movements.

Being around our children every day we frequently don't notice the little growth spurts in our kids until, suddenly, NONE of their clothes fit!
I realize that my daughter has hit a growth spurt when she starts tripping or falling and most notably is spinning around a lot. It is like her neurological system has to catch up with her bones!
