I do like Bush's Baked Beans, but I absolutely adore Ranch Style Beans. I'm lucky that my local QFC carries them (must be more Texans around here!). I just wish my husband ate either of them. It's kind of hard to eat a whole can of beans on your own! I cook a lot of green beans because he will eat them (and I love fresh green beans), but he won't touch any other kind. I miss pintos, red beans, butter beans, and even lima beans.*sigh*

We miss butter beans too. I have not had any since we left SC. They are best on rice with a few slices of tomatoes.

So about half of the kitchen has been re-installed. So I am seeing progress in the right direction. The kitchen sink is finally going to be installed so that it is centered to the window above it. The house is 21 years old, and the builder didn't bother to center the sink all those years ago. It took us a while tonight figure out what wasn't right about the placement of new cabinets, and finally fix the problem. It should look a lot better when its done. I should be able to get pictures of things tomorrow.

going to Chicago area next weekend... anyone know of any good breeders there I can pickup eggs from? Thinking of stopping in at Garfield museum and get a few doz java eggs.... dunno... when I get back I start up the redwood bator again

Although if you don't sell them I could take them to yakatat for the family trying to improve food substance in the small village.

Are they tough? Preds are a worry So I only send up my tough boogers that can take care of themselves well.


I just figured since I was going to visit a buddy of mine in Chicago who is a chicken peep too we'd go visit the farm and I'd try to get a few dozen home with me

MIght see if I can find more in the area too... although theres talk of visiting family in the Netherlands so I might have to finish my import papers and go get a few doz there too.... and maybe a dutch Shepard pup .... need a pup like a need a hole in my head but hey who knows

Yup.... was thinking to get some of the parent stock to many of the breeds ..... The Friese Hoenders or The Friesian Fowl but if I get to go and I get to a breeder I will be bring back every egg I can afford of every breed they got! *part of the Chiago trip is to test how the eggs do as carry on in a plane ride and how the pressure etc affects em
Got a lot of family I've never met and have been invited but the issue atm is how my court case falls in the end of oct.... if it goes well then everything stays the same and I can go... if it goes aginst me I'm so hosed I may not travel for years...
here is to hoping it goes my way and I don't have to pay a bunch of money I don't have cuz someone else screwed up in 2004 and they blame me.

I tried getting molasses water into her but she fought me. She's gone now. Her breathing became quite labored and she started having fluid come out of her nose. Sounded to me like she was drowning in her own internal fluids. She had to have been poisoned, nothing else makes sense. DH and I culled her half an hour ago. It's been a rough day watching her like that and I'm really sad so I'll come back later.

Wish I had words to make it better... my heart goes out to you. Im sure she knew you were doing everything you could for her.

Id still love to meet you.. Its just that Saturday Hubby and kiddo and I went to fair. Was a great family day. I GOT TO LOOK AT CHICKENS AND GOATS Hubby couldnt complain because I was quiet while he looked at all the cars, tractors and those dang Sauna box things... I was quiet because while he was looking I was THINKING about what breed Im gonna do next and how my new coops will be designed... Were gonna start them next week....

I am so jealous! What a fabulous harvest! I have no luck with beans in my yard and I don't know why. I had sugar snap peas coming out of my ears, but the 25 feet of scarlet runner beans that I planted on an adjoining fence haven't given me a single bean. The flowers just fall off. I planted a few other bush beans in another spot, and while they have given me a few beans they have hardly grown. Oh well, the chicken project has been such a distraction this summer that the garden has been mostly ignored for the past 2 months.

That's what happened here, too. Next year the garden will become the priority again.
