That's a great idea! My in-laws also gave us a fantastic tumbler composter easily as large as an outdoor trash can but we haven't begun using it yet. Perhaps I'll try adding in all our bedding, straw, and poop a few layers at a time before winter and do this cleanout gradually, just so I can maximize the poop usage. Thanks for the idea!

Ya know I have 4 outside cats, all spay and neutered of course, and they are the best hunters I've ever had!! And they were raised with the chicks so they don't bother them.
I don't have rats, mice, moles, birds, gophers, um.... let me see what else, oh yea, or rabbits!!! The first time I saw my male with a full grown rabbit I thought I was going to croak!! I was so freaked out, I grabbed it and threw it away!! dang! you'd think I didn't feed them or something?? They get fed twice a day on top of what they go out and kill!! That was a little over the top for me tho!

I know , terrier can be such brats!! I've had a few, and a jack and some crosses, they don't always do well around chickens tho, cause of their instincts, it depends on the dog, and of course how well the owner trains or shall I say NOT trains the dog!!

He was fixed before we got him, but we discovered that he was fixed way too late. He marks everything. Plus, he does have that terrier attitude. He ignores our chickens and has even been pursued on occasion! George will see him wandering around and she'll charge up behind him. He turns to look at her and she stops dead. He resumes his course and she goes after him again. He turns and she stares at him. It's very amusing to watch.

Here are some photos!

Frodo being adorable. I cannot wait until she lays eggs.

Peepers!

These are the three EE cockerels plus Heidi the Spitz. They grew up together and still hang together.

Heidi LOVES her boys! Isn't she tiny in comparison?

Princess Buttercup!

Heidi is finally starting to understand that I have treats!
Exceptional pics & gorgeous birds. I really enjoyed looking at these. ~Dee~

I know, I've been watching documentary's on netlix! I won't bore any of you with what I really think of Monsanto and their BS!! yea not going there, the good thing is we have alfalfa, and asparagus and corn, no wheat for many many miles!! All I got to say, is if Monsanto wants to bring there thugs to my house looking for their GMO crap they are going to be looking down the barrel of a shot gun before they even get out the truck!! Trust me, they don't want to **** with a Chief Boatswains mate!! Bad hip or no bad hip!!

I watched two documentary's on GMO's and Monsanto, and the infringment issue, I know they have tons of money so they can do what they want, but, it's totally BS that they can run rough shod over farmers, and have thugs out looking for people who are harvesting their OWN seed, not Monsanto's and strong arm them!!

See!! I knew it, I knew I'd start mouthn off!!!

Yea, I was worried about my pup, I usually get them neutered before they start marking because of that, and I was watching Taco a few day ago and.....yea, I saw him lift his leg and I told my husband, that's it, he's going, cause usually if you get them before, they won't but if you get them after they usually continue!!
rant.gif
I was talking to my vet about it when I picked him up tonight, she said, ya know usually a dog is some what sore after a neuter, she said, not yours! I said why, she said, cause he went out to go potty and he lifted his leg ABOVE his head!!! LOL!!!!

Quote: Dogs are better for rat control than cats when you're in a coyote zone (ie basically all of this state; I've seen photos of 'yotes in Pioneer Square at 4am) because they come when called and are easier to fence in. I'll be looking for a good terrier pup of some sort (one that doesn't have coat care issues, preferably) when my old dogs (nearly 16, and 15 in February) go to their reward and will also, somehow, be putting smaller mesh wire around the perimeter of the yard to keep the dog in since my long-ago hired help laid all the pasture fence upside down.

I have a friend who calls his Jack Russell the "Jack Russell terrorist."

I like cats and we thought about getting one a while back. After much thought, we decided a dog would be easier to deal with. Our GSD is quite good at killing rodents, but she's way to big to get them in the smaller spots. So we have talked about getting another Schipperke. They were originally used as ratters and watchdogs. Both of the ones we had were very good at those jobs. Our old girl was even better than bat ears GSD at noticing stuff outside even when she was mostly deaf and going blind with old age. I'm not really a terrier person, more into the spitz and herding types, so Schipperkes fit well for me since their closest relative is the Belgian Shepherd (which I'd like as well, so does DH).

Yep, that's it!

This is the front view of the house.......

This is my the barn. 9 stalls each with its own fenced area off of them and heated tack room.

That's awesome!! You could make any number of those stalls into chicken coops too! Just hardware cloth on the external horse stalls and a roof over top and you'd be set for any number of horses and chickens!
Oh trust me I am with ya on that!
Trying to catch up here but have to stop & say:
We had an annoying beep from a text sent at 4:30 A.M. this morning...followed quickly by another & another so figured it was an emergency.
So DH got up & checked his phone.........
And DiL water broke, and she was on her way to the hospital, and an hour later she had a 7#10 oz baby boy !!!!!!!!!!
Still have not heard the name yet ! this is 8 grandkids, and my daughter has 1 in the oven at 4 mo along........

Oh congrats! I love children so very much, I want more babies....So happy for you!

I have always liked Schipperkes but, the only ones I was ever exposed to was when I was a vet tech, and most of them were nervous nellies, do you think they would be good around chickens, ducks and goats?? I knew they were ratters in Belgian, but they can be yappers can't they??

Hey!! nice digs!!! That's pretty cool! Love the barn and house and all, very nice!!

Remember back in the... I think it was late 80s or early 90s or I don't know maybe a little late, they were the dog flavor of the month!! You saw them every where, and ever pet store had them!! I had never seen them before and I really thought they were cute, what about their coat? Do they shed a lot??
