Wasted feed - layena crumbles aren't cheap.

Think of them as a child throwing a temper trantrum to get what they want, if you give in to their demands, the problem is never solved. My birds know that until they clean up their spilt feed, they don't get any new feed. They can squawk all the want, and stop laying if they choose, the only thing it gets them is a one way ticket to freezer camp. They learn fast

If they are dual purpose birds & not light breeds like leghorns, they should eat about 1/3lb/bird/day or 5.66lbs./day for 17. That would be almost 40 lbs. per week. This is if they are not getting other things.

No chamber pots at goodwill. For now I scooped up all of the food off the floor and added it to the top of a deep cookie can I got there, which also held the contents of the 2 gal auto feeder (it wasn't full). The can is about 5 inches deep, they were squawking for food on the ground this morning, I gave them about half a cup scattered. Hopefully they will eat, or I'll be searching for a thread on how to prepare them for freezer camp. (it's that killing part I know NOTHING about.)

I use cage cups on the wire of my run for the grit and oyster shell. They seem to work great. I got the stoneware kind with the locking bolt style backing. For my feeder I use the galvanized metal feeder and the girls don't have any waste. They just switched from crumble to pellets as a kind neighbor gifted us with 50 pounds of pellets as a thank you for eggs. I sprinkled some on the ground and that was that.

The chamber pots are SUPER cute. Out here in CA they are highly collectible and fetch $40+. Ebay sometimes has some good deals on them.
